Well done Robert Taylor only #20, that place would give you nightmares as a child. I grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago in the 70's and 80's that place was always in the news, along with Cabrini-Green.

In Atlanta Techwood Homes, Eastlake Meadows, and Perry Homes was a war zone. Techwood homes was the most dangerous housing project in America. The violent crime rate was 37x the national average. Cabrini Green and Techwood should of been tied and #1.

Untrue regarding the Towers- there was no upper income requirement in the beginning. We moved there in March 67. It was called the Eichler Towers then. Eichler went bankrupt and HUD turned it into Section 8 and it became the Geneva Towers. We were one of the few families who paid market price for the Ghetto. Crime ridden and poorly maintained, the residents lived with roaches and some had rats too. The residents would destroy the elevators and the 20 storey buildings smelled of urine and decay. It was such a beautiful place when we moved in but within 2 years it really degraded ❤

@@empirebbk I’m very sad to say no. The Pink Houses are part of the East NY section of Brooklyn. The area surrounding of the projects is not good. The East NY section has eleven houses projects which they have beef with each other. You also have the tenements and private houses that are horrible in that section. If you do get a chance to do some research on the East NY section of Brooklyn. I also agree with these developments on your list: Prospect Plaza (#8) Queensbridge (#22) Marcy (#29) Honorable mentions could be: Red Hook Houses (BK) Soundview Houses (Bx) Edgemere Houses (Qns)

Robert Taylor was the worst because of the population: 97% on welfare, single mothers, literally the poorest area in the US. But it was such a scourge on the children that lived there. So dangerous and depressing.

Texas is in the top 3 currently, but it wasn't even in the top 5 when all those projects were built. New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, & Michigan were bigger. On top of that, Houston & Dallas weren't that big either, and are not traditional big cities, so it's common for places like that to not make the cut.
