For everyday shooting, I like Kodak colorplus 200. But, is it me or has film prices shot up? I’m back to shooting film after a year and half hiatus and one roll of colorplus 200 is ~$6-8. I used to get a roll for $2.99. Cheers bro, from the Bay as well.

By sheer number of rolls shot, it's HP5 Plus. So versatile and pretty economical as well compared to Tri-X. For general purpose cheap color film I like Fuji C200, it seems more consistent in daylight and overcast conditions than Kodak but if you're gonna be shooting sunsets then definitely go for the Kodak Gold.

I appreciate how you use your own words and analogies rather than regurgitate the same technical notes that other reviews often contain. Makes it more accessible. Great video! I’m also a fan of Gold 200, and Fuji Superia 400

Definitely agree the warm "Kodak look" seems a bit unnatural in overcast conditions and shade but looks great in direct sun, backlit by sun, or even situations where the subject is in the shade but things in the background are direct lit by sun. If I see clouds in the forecast it's time to load up Fuji :)

@@ahasver07 Fuji Velvia 50 theoretically still exists but if you want to shoot slide film be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for it. If you shoot negative film then you will only need to pay a leg 😂

Totally agree with shooting black and white film, your approach is much different and you are almost in another realm when it comes to composing. I've printed color film in black and white in my darkroom and never cared for the results. This is a discussion that I have with my students frequently about when to shoot in black and white and when to use color. You have a great eye for color, and I really like that you are showing us examples of your work.

the decision process between B&W or Color is a complex one. Timelessness is a huge pro with B&W photography. It's hard to achieve the same effect with color films. Like you said, composition is also affected by this too! The focus changes. Props to you for being a good educator to the next generation

Try Kodak Gold 200 at ISO-100. I did some compares to the ProImage last year and find you can buy 6 rolls Gold for the price of 5 rolls of ProImage. Otherwise, the results are virtually identical. But, I much prefer Ektar over either, except the higher cost.

Having grown up with analogic cameras and turning into a bnw lover, I totally agree with you that it's completely different taking pictures with digital cameras and converting raw pics into bnw. The attitude when taking a bnw photograph is unique. For this reason, I've returned to my old Nikon analogic camera. And even if you have to wait for the results, I'm feeling so good with this "nostalgic" way of capture images.

5+ years of experience? Why not 40? 😁 Anyway, IF I shoot colour negative film these days, it's Kodak Ektar, period. That film stock is however not my number one ever, that prise goes to Fuji Superia 100, which also had very tiny grain, great all do a little bit cooler colours, and it was CHEAP. However, sadly, it's discontinued years ago. We could say classic Fuji, damn... And for black & white film stock I'm really struggling to give my No.1 pick, but it boils down to one word, Ilford...

I’ve actually never tried any other film stock besides Portra (only bc I’m new to film photography and it was what everybody recommended), but this video was super helpful in which other film stock I want to expand too!
