When the draft was around you were lucky to just get in the Air Force. I became an Inventory Management specialist. Two overseas assignments and a 6 month TDY to live in a tent in Guam. Made E-5 just over 3 years. My best reward was helping an Irish Nun get school desk for the kids at the Leper colony in the Philippines.

I’m an admin and currently trying to cross train into Chaplain Assistant. Being admin, it’s real subjective. As I have done so many different things and dealt with so much organized and unorganized chaos. I have done it for about 6 years now… just tired of it. No regrets. It was fun while it lasted. Also I have a friend who cross trained from Photojournalism to Public Health. She likes it better and a lot less stressful for her. She has been a photojournalist for a while too, assuming 6+ years.

Currently a 1D7X1A Network Ops (formerly 3D1X2 Cyber Transport) and while this is subjective af, it’s definitely one of the top jobs the AF has to offer that will allow someone to get a high paying civilian job even just out of tech school. My friend who’s guard got offered a contract position right out of tech school with just our tech schooling and Sec+ certification and the entry level pay is $85000/yr lol. And depending on the shop you get put in, you’re still pretty hands on with switches, circuits, routers, etc. Highly recommend this job and I personally love it! (Of course, I am biased)

Any advice for those who are "job locked" ??? I have heard dozens of times its a very bad idea to go into a recruiters office and want a specific job. I myself desperately want to be a pilot. I have wanted to be a pilot for as long as I can remember. I have even gone to college and majored in aviation technical science and I am a year away from obtaining my bachelor's degree. I would have taken the civilian route if I had the funds but unfortunately I don't. The military was always back up but I don't want to sign up and be made a chef if I tried ti join the air force. I was hoping to go to OTS to become an officer and then sign up for pilot training from there. @@Recruits.Colorado with how pt testing works in basic I highly doubt it. They do a mass test by lining everyone up across from each other so they can take turns counting reps. But of course I don’t work at lackland so I can’t say for sure, but I do think it’s in everyone who’s shipping out’s best interest to get good scores on the traditional test and not rely on the new components. :)
