Top 5 Bakeries in Melbourne that you absolutely must try in 2021!
Bakery items are very in right now in Melbourne. New bakeries, pastry, and cake shops are opening up all around Melbourne. The quality and the standard of the baked goods sold in shops are becoming higher and higher now. That's why we present you top 5 (arguably) best bakeries that you absolutely need to try if you live in Melbourne or plan to visit Melbourne.
The first stop is Baker Bleu. They specialise in making sourdough bread using ancient grains with a long fermentation process, resulting in a darker crust. Try their bread with cultured butter, absolutely delicious. Another must-try item from this bakery is the sourdough pastries. The feta croissant is to die for!
The second stop is Agathé Pâtisserie, one of the old players here in Melbourne. It was created by a Parisian-born pastry chef, Agathé Kerr. Located in South Melbourne market, it's a must-visit destination when you go to this market for the first time! Many people compare this pastry shop with Lune Croissanterie. For us, they are quite different and have their own characteristics, especially with their dough. Agathe is more towards homemade and rustic style, while Lune is very precise and uniform, every single pastry they make is created with a high level of precision. Both are great and top-notch!
Tarts Anon is an online shop that specialises in making tarts, as the name suggests. They will soon have a permanent shop in Cremorne, the current place they use to have their customers pick up the tarts every weekend. The online shop is open for pre-order every Monday at 6pm. You have to be really quick to purchase their tart because everything is gone within minutes!
Monforte Viennoiserie is one of the newer pastry shops in Melbourne. We couldn't believe that when we arrived a few minutes after they open, there was already a very long line of people. Melbournians are super passionate about getting the pastry fix every morning it seems! Their most popular item is the honey and sea salt croissant. Oh my goodness, it's is so scrumptious! Definitely cannot be missed!
Last but not least, Beatrix, a small cake shop in North Melbourne. Another cannot-believe-our-eyes moment when we arrived at the shop because of the super long line of people still early in the morning! This is not even a viennoiserie, as they specialise in classic cakes, but it doesn't prevent the people to not queuing since they open in the morning. Cake for breakfast it seems! :P
