Jenny, you convinced me to get a J15 & I must say I'm very impressed with it! The gearing is so low that even on my awful trackwork it runs like a dream! Some blemishes on the paintwork on mine, but for less than £70 I was very happy with mine!

Pretty good Jenny . Only thing I’d say is that there are some known issues with some of these . The Oxford Radial had issues with driving wheels being lifted off rails because front and back bogies are not sprung . Some issues with Heljan 1361/1366 too that occasionally have over tightened screws and just don’t run . They are all bargains though . Well done for fishing them out .

I just picked up the Hornby Adams Radial Southern wartime black from Kernow Model Rail Center for 66.99 pounds. With no VAT and shipping it is running me 85.80 dollars to the U.S.. Now the how long will it take to arrive? A week and a half like my Rocket, or 2 and a half months like my Q1? Got to love U.S. customs in Chicago. Jenny you keep getting me to buy British steam locomotives.

A good selection of reasonably priced models and the J50 is a personal favourite as I remember these shunting at Copley HIll loco shed in Leeds so on seeing your video its give me a little nudge to buy one or maybe also the departmental version as well lol 🙂

Thanks for the heads up on some of these items Jenny; I had 3x the OR Adams locos from when they came out but sensed the Hornby version was a little better. I just found the last Southern version on MRD for £64 so as you suggested, snapped it up to run with my ex-Ambulance pack Bachmann coaches. Cheers PS so that's 2 heads up features this month (Rails discontinuing with Hornby being the first), and as things usually come in threes, wonder what your next alert will be ;-)

Ttcdiecast currently have a couple of Hornby Terrier (Southern Cowes and Leadenhall) both for £62.99 plus postage which seems a steal. I've just bought a Bachmann Webb coal tank in the sale at Modelrailways direct for £59 plus postage. That sales ends this month though. They also have the L&YR 2-4-2 at the same price.

*stares at British locomotive classification numbers in Bewildered American*
@LeslieGilpinRailways
4 жыл бұрын
To make it more confusing it was based on individual company schemes. If you look back at US steam classes they are equally confusing!
@Andophonic
4 жыл бұрын
@@LeslieGilpinRailways I can agree with you there, though some American classifications managed to make at least some sense. For example the Rio Grand's C-18 was a 2-8-0 (C)onsolidation with a tractive effort of 18,000 pounds, so you could presume what a C-19 would be. Or a K-36 mi(k)ado. Also I suppose classifications that include a letter as well as a number (J50 for example) would just be easier to remember. Like I can recognize a specific company and locomotive if you say "A4" about as well as I can if an American says "GS-4". But once I hearing things like "class 37" I genuinely have no idea, and I will never remember once told.

The Heljan tank locos are complete rubbish due to their improper NEM coupling mounting height, which is off by about 2mm! Totally not fit for purpose, what good is a loco that cannot properly couple to a train? Where are the standards, Heljan? I bought one of the Panniers after seeing your earlier positive review, and it was absolutely the worst purchase I have made since buying my first British outline train. Never again will I consider a Heljan train model, they should stick to structures, and leave the trains to manufacturers that can adhere to standards!
@JenniferEKirk
4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I agree on the couplings. The cranked couplings they fit are useless and I change them for straight which bring them to the right height.
@railtwister
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jenny, Thanks for the reply. I had tried swapping out the cranked coupler for a NEM straight version and while it was better, it still wasn’t great, though I can’t remember exactly why at the moment. I seem to remember there also being some difference between the front and rear coupling height. I also remember being most disappointed that the Kadee NEM conversion didn’t seem to fit well either. Here in the USA, tension-lock couplings are few and far in between, they haven’t been used much on domestic models here since the mid-fifties. I have dug the little Pannier tank out of the closet to take a closer look at making its couplings work, but for a not so cheap, brand new loco, such extra work shouldn’t be necessary
