That was my bearded dragon's situation. I got mine from a sell and swap site and he had mild mbd, no uvb for a year and was missing some toes, he also had 3 sheds (minimum) stuck on him and had a previously fractured leg and parasites. I wish I watched this video before I got my baby bearded dragon, I researched a lot before o got him BUT I didn’t know that they were so difficult! At least my guy is, I ended up buying all new lighting after I bought him, have brought him to the vet twice and he’s a small little guy! Having eating problems..... ugh. Doesn’t like to eat insects.
@TripleBlsdNHlyFvrd
5 жыл бұрын
They'll take some getting used to eating veges when they're small. The younger they are, the more they like insects then as they get older, they'll start taking a liking to their veges (kind of like kids, lol). BUT still offer veges when they're young even if they don't eat them right away. You can also try syringe feeding your beardie baby food if they're not eating, just to get some nutrition in their system. Another thing, I had 2 beardies at one time that had they're own individual taste buds and appetites, lol. One ate most of everything I offered and the other was always a picky/difficult eater from the start. With my picky eater, I would try feeding her peas because I could "roll" them and catch her attention (like insects). They both LOOOOVED yellow squash, strawberries, carrots at times, greens, and several more foods. DO NOT FEED THEM ICEBERG LETTUCE because it has no nutrition. Dubia roaches are great, preferrably better than crickets (more protein, doesn't smell, live very long, doesn't make any noise, and can continuously breed and keep your food supply going regarding insects). Beardies need a variety of food and make sure they have the right amount of calcium w/D3, the right uvb bulb (or get enough sunlight if you have an outdoor enclosure), and do not use calci-sand. If they're not getting the right uv rays, this could affect their mood, appetite, and their health most importantly. Hopefully these tips helped. Continue your research and enjoy your new baby! Congrats😊

Reign Lhyt of Gratitude hi thanks for the help, it’s been a while and my dragon eats a ton now! He’s getting super big too, I’m wondering if he’s eating too much now lol. He eats about 100 bugs a day and a salad. But anyway I have. 22 inch reptisun t5 10.0 uvb bulb going across his cage which is a 40 gal breeder but I didn’t think it was enough uvb, he walks and stands on his wrist! Besides that he’s good. So anyway I got a solar glo from exxxo terra mercury vapor bulb that I use for his basking spot as well as the other uvb bulb. Everyone on beardeddragon.org says that’s too much uvb for him but I really don’t think so. What do you think? Also. If I’m using a mercury vapor bulb should I get calcium without d3, I heard it can calcify their organs if you use d3 with a mvb? Should I keep using the calcium with the d3 in it? Thanks!
@TripleBlsdNHlyFvrd
5 жыл бұрын
@@karebearsanimalhouse7195 You're welcome. The reptisun 10.0 and a indoor flood light for basking should be enough. I use to use a 65W indoor flood light from the Dollar Tree. If that temp is too low, then go up the next wattage which should be 75W. Anything higher like 100W might be too hot. Make sure you have a digital thermometer (hand held or point gun) to be able to take the temp of the basking spot so you'll know it's not too hot or too warm. I'm wondering if that's why he's walking on his wrists. I think with beardies they'll stop eating when they've had enough. 100 bugs a day sounds like a lot, but what type of bugs and what are the sizes? If they're very small that's why he's eating so many. I think the salad is good that he's eating and loving it. Yes to the calcium with d3. You shouldn't have to add calcium with d3 for every feeding, I believe 3 - 4 times a week. Also consider a reptile vitamin for the alternate days when you're not giving the calcium with d3. I never used a mercury vapor bulb with mine, so I can't really give feedback regarding.

Growing up in Hawaii we had Green Anoles and Day Geckos running wild. I was told stories of how kids would catch them ( green anoles) and stroke their jaw to open their mouth, hold them up to their ears and wear them as earrings for the day. Little things would just hang like that for a few hours, then at lunch time the kids would release them back. Day geckos in the house were considered good luck, especially the gold colored ones.

@@yesyes1299 they can be tricky to find and it doesn't help that they are often mislabeled as a beardie that just won't grow. Do your research, it isn't hard thier scientific name is pagona henrylawsoni, often called by other names such as P.brevis or P.rankini due to some issues with who discovered the species but is commonly called rankins, lawsons, dumpy, pygmy or dwarf dragons or occasionally black soil bearded dragons although they are not really bearded at all haha kind of a clean shaven teacup version of a beardie. I suggest getting an idea of the bow tie pattern that is exclusive to them since I could easily see one being sold in a big chain pet store as a runt beardie . I was lucky enough to find someone in my area on Facebook looking to get rid of theirs for under 100 Each an my only regret is not getting more , they do particularly well in small groups especially if they were raised together .

Reptile expos are my go-to. You can check Repticon.com to find show locations/dates. You can also do morphmarket.com which is where breeders go to sell reptiles. And you can always find them on craigslist being rehomed, just be aware that, sadly, a lot of people sell their sick animals on there that were poorly cared for. If you're up for that, awesome 😊, but they can come with vet bills. Good luck! :)

My aunt and uncle, especially my uncle, are really excited I'm getting into monitor lizards, my uncle just strait up says he'll buy me an ackie or two. I'd love to cohab a male and at least two females, though for my first time I should probably start off with one.

Hi I live in a small apartment and I have never owned a lizard. I'm thinking of getting a crested gecko would this be a good choice for me.

I currently have a russian tortoise and really want a bearded dragon, my tortoise currently eats spinach,kale and lettuce and once and a while strawberries or bananas, do they have similar diets?
