There's actual studies that found using blue Hubbard as sacrificial plants at the end of the row saves the plants, even on large scale farming!

The only one I have found to work is me I plant my ass at the base of each plant every day and pick off borrer eggs 😂😂😂

If you're seeing the clusters of eggs, odds are that's the squash bug, not the squash vine borer. I've come to the conclusion that, while the squash bugs aren't doing your plants any favors, they do not create the total devastation that the SVB does. A LOT of these videos do not seem to make the distinction, but they're two entirely different pests.

I was avoiding squash this year because vine borers and squash bugs have robbed me joy in past years. I am now going to give it a shot and put chocolate mint in one container and marigolds in another with it this year. Nasturtiums did not mature fast enough for me last year, I will need to plant them earlier if I try them with squash again one year. Fingers crossed. Thanks as always for for the tips!

Love the app. I planted marigolds last year for the first time to protect veggies. They were a great trap for Japanese Beetles. Every time I walked by them there would be beetles on them that I would knock into a soapy water cup.

I am in Central Florida 9b. Just an FYI - when growing pumpkins here in late spring, the pumpkins are attacked by the pickle worm. I looked to see if the app showed it. Sorry to say pickle worms were not listed. You may want to add pickle worm as a pest. I’m ripping out all the pumpkins. 😢

See me I'd leave it, and keep another one in garden. How I garden is always keep a pest trap plant. The pests are attacking it. That's great. While they got the buffet plant my other one will be highly successful. Mother nature is how I garden. Think pest trap plant. Leave it ..SUCCESS.

First thank you! Excellent advice. I seeded Nasturtiums in my greenhouse then transplanted to gardens in late May in North Tx. Then the massive rain & cooler temps came for 3 weeks. Some died a few are presently fighting for their survival but better after 3 days of sun. Should I try seeding directly into my vegetable garden soil as heat returns next week to mid 90. I do have 55% shade cloth over my. Thank you! 6:30
@FromSeedtoSpoon

You're welcome! Given your situation, seeding nasturtiums directly into your vegetable garden soil as the heat returns could be a good idea. Prepare the soil by loosening it and mixing in some compost to improve fertility and drainage. Plant the seeds once the soil has warmed up and temperatures are consistently in the mid-90s, as nasturtiums thrive in warm weather. The 55% shade cloth you have will help protect the seedlings from intense midday sun and reduce heat stress. Keep the soil consistently moist until the seeds germinate and the seedlings are established, but be careful not to overwater, as nasturtiums don't like waterlogged soil. Sow the seeds about 1/2 inch deep and space them according to the packet instructions, typically about 10-12 inches apart for optimal growth. Monitor the seedlings for the first few weeks, ensuring they are not stressed by heat or lack of water, and adjust the shade cloth if necessary to provide the right balance of sun and shade. By following these steps, you should have a better chance of successfully growing nasturtiums directly in your vegetable garden soil.

What about ground hogs are all squash lady year.
@FromSeedtoSpoon
4 ай бұрын
Groundhogs can indeed be a problem for squashes as they are for many other garden plants. To deter groundhogs, you can try fencing around your garden with a fine mesh buried at least a foot underground and bent outwards. Other methods include using repellents, planting deterrent plants, or installing motion-activated sprinklers.
