Just looking at L322s now and stumbled upon your video's, many thanks for taking the time to share your experiences, i have 2 defenders but this will be my first time moving to a range rover.

Holding money back from the purchase budget was the best advice I’ve heard, from my own experience you need that safety cushion from unexpected repair bills. I would also add that the contingency needs to be topped up and maintained so it’s always there available. For real peace of mind, have access to alternative transport if needed, so that any significant issues don’t screw up your daily life, but I guess that could be said about any vehicle.

Agree, hold money back. Eventually, you get ahead of the issues you’ve inherited, I’m lucky, mine is not a daily driver.

Nice video! I love that you use yours as an overlander. My purpose for buying one was that it looks cool and makes me feel cool and my research indicated that it would be more reliable than the classic that I used to own.

I’m thinking of buying a 2012 Westminster , what’s it like reliability wise and are there any costly repairs to keep an eye out for. Any help appreciated

Very informative and totally agree with everything you say, especially the preemptive maintenance approach, which must be applied to all Land Rover products of that era. In my case a big (absolutely massive) consideration for buying my late Discovery 4 over an L322 was the ULEZ and the proliferation of clean air initiatives that are now targeting vehicles below Euro6. Low Emissions zones are popping up all over the country and is a growing trend across European cities too. The alternative is the euro6 compliant 5.0 v8, there’s quite a few on auto trader right now, but that option really does need a person to sit up and consider what it is they’re buying into. As ever, a huge thank you for sharing your experiences. Ty

mine isn’t a daily, but the ULEZ adds up each week and going forward, governments will probably try and start to remove vehicles more than 10 years old either entirely, or price them out of cities and build up areas.

@@Overlanding4WD This doesn’t mean I don’t want one. Believe me channels like yours keep me awake at night contemplating the unthinkable. It’s only my missus that has been the voice of reason. Else I’d have one and be making even bigger sacrifices to the gods of JLR. But alas even the Disco with all its Euro6’ness is keeping my wallet sufficiently exercised. Instead the wife has managed to temper my desires on the promise we can get an all electric Range Rover when it’s released in 2024. In the meantime your adventures continue to give inspiration for my current car, as much of the practical and technical tips are applicable across the Land Rover stable. But I still lust over the L322. Ty

models were, (ascending) ...HSE, Vogue, Vogue SE, Westminster, and Autobiography. leather options on late models were, all models got dashtop and console lid, in stitched leather. and on vogue models, piped edged seats in windsor leather, and plastic centre dash parts .plastic door cards with leather sundries. ie handle and storage edges. (HSE was lower spec from early models, but Vogue SE (higher model range) and Autobiography, had heated and cooled seats, in non piped aniline leather, with doiuble stitching. vogue SE had plastic door cards, but had leather centre dash parts. autobiography, got all leather door cards, dash parts, console, with sides, in aniline leather. Autobiography had no cost optional leather headlining too. westminster models got perforated windsor leather piped seats, with heated/cooled seats as standard, but had plastic door cards and centre dash. supercharged were similar. (westminster typically only available in 2012 later models although a few 2009 were made)

I'd be interested to know why you chose l322 vs a discovery 3 or 4 ? Way more carrying volume for overlanding. You can easily sleep inside on flat floor. A petrol/gas d3 V8 HSE would be the least trouble.
