E-Ink displays for Smartwatches makes much more sense than LCD screens

Really though? Some smart watches have great battery and how often do you really use the screen. Most the power use from the behind the scenes processes reading heart rate etc, imo.

e-innk doesn´t consume power once it's set... thats the beauty of that
@cdgonepotatoes4219

@@BrianHallmond Minimal power consumption and not taking any power once set allows reading the time without having to turn the screen on. Sensors that record when you pull your wrist up to read the time are at times unreliable, take up space within the device and are a constant battery drain.

Used it for more than a year, the limited functions makes it a great watch with smart features instead of a smartphone disguised as a watch that distracts you. The colored LCD also makes it more watch-like than the others

If only Fossil will add the ability to store music locally. Well, I think local music storage should be a default feature for any smartwatch.

And there's no excuse for small devices to not have storage options. Technology is getting smaller and smaller and there shouldn't be any restrictions in regards to that. You are right.

Smartwatches don't need iOS, Android, or an advanced super bright OLED display, e-ink is perfect because brightness doesn't matter, and it gives you a days long battery life. Crazy it hasn't been widely adopted yet. This seems like something that would be a big hit if done properly.

Battery life sucks on the LED screen watches (most need charged daily instead of weekly, monthly, or even less), they are hard to read in bright sunlight, and you have to wake them just to check the time.
@vnenkpet

I had the Fossil one and if it wasn't for poor build quality (had to return them twice), I wouldn't go for anything else. It's one of the best direction for smartwatches and I'm surprised there isn't more of them. Great battery life, looks like an actual watch (in case of the Fossil/Skagen ones), amazing readability on sun, etc. Of course it's limited in functionality but for some people it's the exact thing they want.

Smart watches are largely hype. I'd be interested to see your world studies of how many features people use. Of course there are those that would get a lot out of an Apple watch ultra but your average user probably uses it to check notifications, voice commands (like replying to messages when driving) the time and to occasionally glance at the step counter. Some people might press start on the workout modes but how many actually track the data in any meaningful way? I have a Galaxy 2, before that I had a tic watch which looked worse but functioned better - until the screen died. The voice commands actually worked better on the tic watch than the Tizen-Bixby watch so I don't use those anymore. I'd be happy with an E-ink watch that didn't need constant charging, had good voice command (should be easy now), time and had basic fitness measurements that I could view on my phone... And colour E-ink might help this become reality as people get over the “more is better” mentality - unless it's more battery life.

i really really really wish, that apple will make an iPhone mini, to a "minimalistic iPhone" with an e ink display and a batterie life of 2 weeks or more. don't need youtube or any other entertainment. just apps which helps you out with information, organization and when really needed youtube for information in black and white 1pps. please. maybe just an kickstarter project with an "send in iPhone and get back with e ink display" would be huge! for me at least and maybe many other people who believe in digital detox or just want longer batterie life
