When I was a young supply sergeant I was assigned to a M.P. Unit and a platoon sergeant decided he was going to lock me up at parade rest because he didn’t like that I was working in my supply room when he walked in. Well, a year and a half later when he came to clear my supply room he informed me that he had lost his bullet proof vest. He asked if I could do anything to help him out; I informed him I couldn’t and I typed up his statement of charges for five hundred dollars. Truth is I had extra vests that weren’t on the property book and I had helped out other soldiers in the past, but I never forgot what a complete ass he was to me, so what goes around comes around.

I was a supply clerk and had only two specific jackasses that earned this treatment. The first one was just an outright asshole but the second one.. woah mama… this idiot had us driving down to the bootcamp base to replace his broken rifle (simple shit, all good), but the guy had us waiting for 2 hours, and when he did arrive he started ordering me around (a staff sergeant at the time a kiss away from his DD-214) to take off his handguards that he bought for 200$. I told him to be strong and fuck off. A month later he broke his finger with his sidearm, on purpose, to get out of the course he was in, instead of yknow - telling them “yo it’s cool i’m dipping”. Guess who volunteered to take his gear back to our base? When we got there he only had his rifle, sidearm, vest, and helmet. Still needed two extra bags of shit, and he didn’t label them - so we just didn’t take them and he got slammed with around 1500$ of lost equipment charges. I’ve been told he was a trouble recruit and a trouble troop in general. Refusing orders, going on guard duty in his boxers, etc. so no one really complained when we made him lose 3 months’ wages essentially making him a slave for 3 months.

In New Zealand, we have a 6 week youth development course run by the NZ Defence Force and a couple of other government agencies. Trainees live in barracks and live a military lifestyle during the course. There are 3 FTXs, a First Aid course run by the Red Cross, and we're taught a whole bunch of different skills to get us ready for the work force. I learned very quickly that being polite to the lady at the mess hall was the smartest thing a trainee could do. An extra sausage, spoonful of baked beans, or whatever else extra she decided to pile on my plate (which was already a generous helping, since we were doing a lot of PT) was well worth it. 11/10 would recommend being nice to the people who feed you.

Never pissing off your boss is pretty high up there on one's priority list. I remember turning my radio in at quarters(former Navy Gunners Mate) then going to my rack until afternoon chow. When I got back to my work center I found out we were down a man because he decided to get smart with our LCPO. Remember, kids, never try to fight the guy with boots older than you are. Anyway, he got booted out of our division and sent to Deck Division. Not only was he booted from Combat Systems but he was also booted from our berthing. Up to that point I kept telling him to shut up about how it used to be in the old Navy and deal with it, but no, he had to keep going on about it.

My thoughts exactly. I remember one armorer who was a complete dick and regularly failed people on their first cleaning.
