Great to see you Paul!!! I like your #1 pick the most… Something to enhance your EDC… Extra/Extended mags, a clip on flashlight, an empty chassis system with a zero’ed optic installed. And a OWB holster or sling. That way if the bag is ever stolen or lost, there’s no firearm in there. Second best option is a 22lr with an optic and extra mags. The carbines don’t ever seem to be small & light enough.

Thank you for the commentary. Good to see you Paul. Roy nice to see you again. As a 3 day pack meant to either get you home or away from danger. An overlooked type of weapon to carry is a Youth Rifle or Shotgun. They are typically smaller, lighter and considerably less expensive. Some versions feature an over under configuration of a .22/20 gauge which could be used for subsistence hunting.

I’m in an area, sadly, with very restrictive firearm regulations. The ruger 10/22 is a great option for us. 22lr is the only calibre with no restriction on semi auto rifles, and the ruger can have 50 round mags, or more, if you want. Now many people say how the 22 has no stopping power etc….but if you’re in a city, with limited ranges, they have plenty of leave me the hell alone power. Plus follow ups are a breeze. Great thing to have when you’re expecting trouble.
@perryparsons9960
2 ай бұрын
I'm finding the 10-22 takedown as the solution for a number of scenarios, with the Ruger 25 round mags and a red dot on a QD mount is too light and compact to dismiss. Biggest advantage? Simple manual of arms and as reliable (idiotproof) as a rimfire can be.
@jasonflay8818
Ай бұрын
Also straight up 22-LR may be underpowered as it is a pest round, the 22-WMR has a little more oomf for penetration while still staying within local regulations. That said the likelihood in a three-5 day scenario you won't be firing at 2 leg targets, I think 22-LR would be the wisest choice as: if you need to hunt for food, the easiest to get would be ruined with to big of a round, and 2) in the event you are incapacitated and you needed an in experienced shooter to fire your weapon a. 22 with the low recoil would be the easiest to train

Good to see you, Paul. For those Henry .22 survival rifles, a few seconds with a Dremel tool to grind a small notch in the feed ramp to allow the tip of the bullet to slide in more easily is about all that is needed to greatly improve their reliability. Just use a cone-shaped stone and make a shallow groove in the barrel at the bottom of the chamber mouth to create a little channel. This will prevent the tip of the bullet from binding on the chamber face. The trick is to not take off too much metal.
