I loved being 1345 for the most part, there are times it sucked but just do your job to where no one has to fix it and persevere. The Marine Corps is what you make of it. Think of it as a long hallway with doors and the Exit at the opposite side, do you want to walk and open some doors or do you want to run to the Exit and get out. When I first got to my 1st duty station, 40+ guys in the platoon all said to me,"if they ask if want to get a hummv license..say no, because they will send you all over the island to operate and PM(PreventiveMaintenance) Equipment." So rather than stay on camp foster and just pm the same Equipment over n over, I volunteered to get licensed and saw the island, saw every base, and was exempt from field day..I did have to keep my room tiptop, and pt on my own. Aircraft mechanics don’t always get good jobs in the civilian sector. Many employers require school and certain certifications. The area that aircraft mechanics do well in civilian sector is avionics. You can basically work on many electronic equipment like medical equipment is good. Also, an avionics chief is just over the avionics shop. There’s other shops like flightline, airframes/hydraulics, and ordnance and flight equipment. Marines don’t work on BlackHawks. I worked on Hueys and Cobras for 4 years in Camp Pendleton.

Also did Hueys and Cobras but in the 90s. I wasn't able to stay in avionics when I got out, specifically because I wasn't smart enuff to get credit for all the stuff we learned in school. When I went thru we covered the majority of an electrical engineering degree. For anyone thinking about this, once you are in fleet hang up the idea of doing anything else with your "free time". You will be busy all the time and wondering where that third hand grew from. So every class you take try to immediately convert that at the nearest local college or university. There should be someone on base to help you figure this out. FYI, when I left I was able to move to Seattle and after a year or two of retail I was hired on at Microsoft with benefits and money that you would find unbelievable after a tour in the MC. Lurn Trons is Gud! "The night time is the right time!" that's when the Marine Corps' little cobblers come out and fix all the naughty aircraft.

Counter Intelligence is preventing security breaches and stopping the enemy from gathering information. For example, making sure opsec is followed. One of the interesting roles that some counter int guys do is a “red team” that tests a unit without them knowing, such as trying to break in to that unit and see if they’re stopped. In WW2 they’d have photo recon aircraft fly over friendly positions to see how well camouflaged they were.

No comparison Marine Infantry is superior
@deez420nuts69
4 жыл бұрын
@@dontjudgeme041 absolutely. Always have been. Even if the Army had a longer and harder training cycle, Marine infantry would still be superior just because of the leadership factor. Marine promotion pipeline is designed to attempt to get the right people in the right positions, keeping the shitbags at lower ranks. Obviously some leak through, but for the most part Marine NCOs and Officers are the very best in the world. Training is important, but leadership and cohesion is more important. A Marine who is signed for infantry contract goes through 21 weeks of training before being sent to his unit. The Army, now, goes through 22. But the Army expects their 22 week OSUT soldiers to be deployment ready after those 22 weeks. Which is smart, builds high quality soldiers, and gets them ready for what they need to do. But Marines, recieve AT LEAST 5 months of pre-deployment training with their unit before deploying... So yeah, their basic training cycle is a week shorter, but they get 5+ months of advanced training WITH their unit of whom they WILL be deploying with. Also, USMC training cycles are much more intense and their instructors are much more hands on. Anyway, in those 5+ months allows a lot of time to make friends, get to understand eachother, learn everyone's pros and cons, work out issues, know who to employ and where, etc.

That is a good list of MOS's. My contract MOS was 3051, but I never did that. I worked as a 3043 because they said I was too smart to be in a warehouse. Then when I went to Okinawa I worked as a 1345 operating tactical forklifts, because during my brief stint in the warehouse I learned to operate the warehouse forklifts. Sometimes MOS means nothing to the corps. I later made a lateral move into the 4000 field as a 4034 computer operator. With cybersecurity being all the rage and IT in general, some of the 4000 MOS's should be on your next list. Great job in the Corps & transferable to civilian life. Every enlisted man wanted to be friends with the Armorer & the CO's were good to you, "If you did your job"!

It was a long time ago now, but that's what I was. You won't become a "chef" in the Corps. You'll rarely even touch food after making Staff, if not before that. Maybe as a baker if you are really good and don't have enough bakers. My first year and a half was pretty skate as we had a ton of cooks but the last year and a half it was day on day off watches, working every other weekend. We went in at 0300 and left at earliest 1900, 2100 to 0030 on field days. We were attached to grunts and lived in open squad bays, and weren't allowed in our racks after formation until the grunts dismissed, generally between 1630 and 1700 on our days off. You really learn who the assholes on base are working the egg grill in the morning. It's probably the most thankless job the Corps has to offer. Unless of course things have changed drastically. If you really enjoy cooking though, it's all good. That part I enjoyed, and my watch won a couple of fleet awards for our chow. That made me feel good. Just the same, on a Monday payday, by Friday evening we were serving 2500 to 3k marines each meal. Lunch that Monday, MAYBE 600, but usually in the 450 range including the snack bar. Rest of the time served about000000000 1500 per meal. We mopped a lot of floor. If it wasn't still wet we were mopping it again. No time to go out and have a smoke though. No such thing as nothing to do.

Good tips. So my former mail man’s job in the marine corps. was similar to air an traffic controller. He coordinated fighter planes. After leaving the Corp He became an air traffic controller in civilian life but was part of the group fired by President Reagan for going on strike. He then became a post man. A real waste of talent ....

Also, what he is not telling you is that the Marines is the smallest branch with the fewest special types of jobs. Not only do you have to score high on the ASVAB, which is similar to the SAT, to even be considered for those jobs, even when you score high, there may not be a need for any of those positions and/or you may have to already have rank before they will consider you, and if you do go into those jobs and still don't make the cut or do well, they make trump you down somewhere else.

Why go into the Marines just to wind up a clerk? The reason you go into the Marines is to get the opportunity to be a reconnaissance operator or an infantryman. Almost no one stays in the same type of work in civilian life as the type of job they did in the military, anyway, but if you must be a military clerk, join the Navy or the Air Force.

Cruz Nunez it was really just a basic overview of electrical work when I went through in ‘98. It was clear while we were in Iraq that the Navy SeaBees had far more training and experience in electrical work than us, but when I came back to CT the state gave me apprenticeship hours for my time in service so I was able to sit for my test and got my electrical license. I had to study my ass off on my own, but thanks to my service time I didn’t have to start from scratch as an apprentice.

As a current student you’ll learn how to operate the AMMPS generators, interior wiring, and power grids. As what I’ve been told my instructors is that you’ll have a lot of opportunities to deploy since the scarcities of an 1141 is crucial on deployments. When you become an NCO then you might even deploy with MARSOC- there’s a lot of possibilities but you’ll work with waterdogs and 42s (who are the repairsmen of the generators).

Avionics is the electrical and electronic components on aircraft. Such as maintaining comms equipment, cockpit displays, navigation computers, fly by wire computers, electrical power generation and all cable looms and connectors. And sometimes the electrical side of weapons systems. Many airforces have a separate MOS or trade called “mechanical” or “mech” that maintains the aircraft structure, panels (including carbon fibre composite repair), hydraulics, fuel system, undercarriage and engines. Basically avionics is light engineering such as computers and electrical, while mechanical is heavy engineering such as old school mechanics work with spanners, nuts and bolts. These skills transfer to any field of engineering not just aircraft. I’ve known ex aircraft avionics and mechs end up employed on oil and gas rigs, ROVs, windfarms, power stations, maintaining trains, maintaining factory machinery, installing building wiring, plumbing, air conditioning, even becoming pit crew for top motorsports teams.

Aviation Refueling is not even one of the jobs. Avionics deals with electrical components on the aircraft miles of wiring. Airframes handles structural and Hydraulic components,etc Powerlines handles Power plants (Engines,Oil Systems, Props and Rotors,etc). Hands down anything in C-130’s is pretty cool. They are 100% self sufficient and do not rely on any other unit for support. We deploy and fly on our own aircraft we maintain as well as go pick up parts and fly to other bases globally to repair downed aircraft and good deal trips.
