I respectfully wouldn’t call any of these “mistakes” as they can be someone’s creative choice and there is no right or wrong way to use the reverb. If I’m not using a modulation on my reverb, it’s not a mistake, it’s a personal choice. So is using it ...

Very good tips Antoine. I think the the pre-delay helped me especially to keep my guitar from sounding to be like it's drowning in a pool of reverb. Also about the shimmer, the effect should be used wisely. How much is enough depends on personal taste. Yet, a good go-by would be listening to U2's Joshua Tree. It helps to determine where and when to use shimmer. As far as droning goes, no need to limit shimmering. Personally I believe shimmer is appropriate for synths. So to me it depends on the style and what not. Merci becoup mon Ami. Until next time!

Parallel process is what makes the "algorithms" sound so good.

If you wanna immitate a huge room with hall you have to put a good ammount of predelay on. It is really unrealistic if not because in a big room or stadion arena etc. it takes the reflections a while to come back to your ear. Which means that long decay halls without predelay is completely unrealistic.

Hi, Antoine! I don't know if the order in which you listed things "not to do" was intentional, but it sparked a question: When trying to dial in the perfect setting for a custom preset, is there an "order of operations?" I know it's art and there are no "rules," but since we're layering dynamics/parameters, it seems there would be some intentional choice about what should be laid down first...? Yea, I know your answer would probably launch a thousand arguments to the contrary and that it's probably a reflexive act based on experience, but it doesn't invalidate the curiosity. As always, thank you!!!

What you say about shimer goes for so many fashions, discoveries and inventions. Like after the prog and power rock people got excited with the baseless and clean syths of the 80's. Naturally guitars and grunge with their human errors and sensitivity came on the block. Then later people got bored with this to. It's like when something new is introduced it always gets overused because of our childish excitement. So it takes some time for us to find back to these instruments or sounds and use them in moderation. Right now one might say that random modulations, tape and vinyl emulations, glitch and bitcrushing is the new "to much"?

I have both. I have relegated the Immerse as my "always on" reverb because, for me, it seemed easier to get a more transparent reverb. I use the Big Sky for more focused or special types of reverb. I’ve had an Immerse mk1 for 3 years and up until recently it was my always on reverb when playing guitar live. The Wet Algo is just incredible.

An issue I have had and hopefully you could clear this up for me... Are there Reverbs that work well in front of an amp? I know the effects loop is ideal. Also, certain amps take pedals in front better too but can you comment on that? What amp and/or Reverbs work well in front of an amp? Also, in mono?
@AntoineMichaudGuitar
4 жыл бұрын
Everything you are hearing on my channel is actually in front of the amps! Yes, it's ideal in the effects loop, but far from mandatory. The big principle here is to setup your amps very clean. As long as your amp is not on the edge of breakup, or pushing into overdrive, you are ok. The goal of using the effects loop is to bypass the gain section of the amp so you don't end up adding reverbs before gain (because your pedals are before your amp, right?). So any amp that can provide you with the cleanest of cleans - most often done with low gain and high master volume settings - can work. I'm thinking Fender amps or Vox AC15 or 30 (like I'm using), or really, any amp that is known for good clean sounds.
@danwillmann9193

@@AntoineMichaudGuitar Awesome response and thank you! I've had a lot of problems with delay for the same reason, the gain stage amplifies the delays and sounds terrible. So, I'm going to play around with different dirt pedals into a Reverb into a clean amp. Thanks again!

I use the the H9 shimmer to create synth like drones, but that has options for pitch shift down as well as up so you can make that sound really really good and not at all cheesy. Martino De Lazzari Wouldn’t you also be compressing the dry signal? though that of course can be cool if that’s the sound you want. Some pedals have an effects loop so you can put the compressor just on the trails to thicken them up alone.

I have a small board that I use live and I am experimenting with different positions of the compressor pedal. I can put it first on the chain, after the overdrives, after the reverb/delay but before the amp sim or at the end of the chain after the amp sim. Every position has some pros and some cons...I haven't made my up my mind yet...
@peterjessop1878

Martino De Lazzari as with all these things there is no right or wrong just what works for you. Heavily depends On The type of music you play too. I use an optical compressor at the start of my chain just as a sweetener and to improve the feel under the fingers. Others use it after overdrive as a boost pedal. Good luck with your experiments.

T'as des recommandations dans le price range de 300$ pour des pédales de reverb sur lesquelles on peut mettre des octaves (genre shimmer) mais avec des modulations et qui permet de go 100% wet ?
@AntoineMichaudGuitar
2 жыл бұрын
@dovid6904

@@AntoineMichaudGuitar merci j'ai regardé la 12 et j'aime bien que tu peux stack des reverb sur une seule et même pédale. Je regarde aussi la Walrus Fathom, c'est presque ce que je cherche et elle est 200$
