not sure if you already have a video up on this but it’d be great if you could explain to people that synthetic fabrics vary in quality ie) not all all polyester or viscose is made equally/some of it is much better quality than other types despite falling under the same name category… hopefully that makes sense.

Hi Jen! A lot of good-quality clothes with good fabrics are dry clean only, which is costly to do it too frequently 😢 Do you have any tips on how frequent should we dry clean them (e.g. wool sweaters) or tips to dry clean ourselves at home? Thanks
@mazzestokes4368
8 ай бұрын
Incase she doesn't respond I have washed all of my wool clothes at home. I ALWAYS machine was cold with like colors then lay it completely flat to air dry. Putting it in a dryer or washing it in head can shrink it. I also will stretch the wool a bit as I lay it out to dry. Done this for years and have never had any issues or excessive wear on my garments. For non-wool dry clean only items, I use a dry clean bag. I got mine from target but I'm sure you could buy one online. This allows me to throw more delicate items in the wash. Just follow the instructions on whichever bag you buy.

It's super low maintenance with it being faux and it can be dressed up or down. Worth every penny of that £29 😂

Overall though: pair of Seven jeans, cream short cable sweater, thrifted olive high-waisted tie trousers, a pair of brown calf boots, and a casual-dressy packable (i.e. no wrinkle) dress by REI that I own in 3 colors.

What do you do about rain? Pockets? Colder weather? Imo either it's too cold to use a jacket that doesn't have good hand protection and the option of head protection or it's too warm to use a big coat. Trench coats seem a bit useless to me. The practicality of not needing to carry an umbrella and being able to walk around outside means I'm always in a oversized waterproof coat.

Synthetics are thermoplastic so when you heat and pleat them, the fibres realign and set into the new shape well. What makes most fabrics "anti-wrinkle" are finishings - namely formaldehyde.

Hmmmm now I’m confused. Should I hate polyester? If not, how do you know if something is made with high quality polyester or low since brand names can no longer be trusted. And you don’t really know the quality of an item until after it’s been worn and washed a dozen times.. Ughhh I don’t mind dropping a 💰 to shop for high quality items but I don’t know what materials are long lasting / high performance.
@lpsprincess14

The thickness and weave of the fabric really matters, a thicker polyester is going to wrinkle much less than a thin piece of polyester. Especially a fabric with some kind of knit. It should not cost more than a similar quality item made of natural materials though.

look at drape, handfeel, weight and sheen when shopping for synthetics. does the fabric fall nicely on the body and feel good on your skin? when you run your hand across the surface is it rough or prone to snagging? if anti-wrinkles are a reason you’re drawn to polyester, crush a portion of the fabric in your hands for a few seconds to see if it goes back to its original shape. aritzia has some nice polyester in their wilfred line, but it’s VERY pricey. if you have the patience for it, H&M sometimes has similar pieces to aritzia with similar textiles in their workwear section, but you really have to hunt for them. usually prices around $20-$80, with the higher end being blends with natural fabrics. if you’re going to shop H&M regularly for staple pieces, i recommend learning basic tailoring and alterations lol. i hem all my pants from them since they don’t sell different lengths source: shopping lover and former aritzia employee

Polyester makes you stink and polutes the envuronment with microplastics. If you personally alright with that, there is no reason to hate polyester.

Let's see, if I lost all my clothes, the top six things I would go out and rebuy would be (I couldn't narrow it down to five): 1. A six pack of Hanes underwear. 2. Ditto with with ankle socks. 3. One pair of Wrangler Jeans 4. Three pairs of Dockers pants (beige, brown, gray). 5. Four Arrow short sleeve checked shirts. 6. Four solid color single pocket polo shirts. And bam, my entire wardrobe replaced. No need to go shopping again for two, three years probably.

@lauralaura4362

its not the consumers fault that the prices go up, everyone should be able to thrift clothes. it's better for the environment and doesn't support fast fashion. thrift companies just get greedy so they inflate the prices. i live in a country town in australia and most thrift clothes are less than 10 dollars. i bought a blazer worth around 170 dollars for 7 dollars. but they increase the prices in places like melbourne because people have more money in melbourne so they know they'll get away with it and make more money. in my country the prices seem to stay low in lower income areas, not sure about how it is in america though
@gabbismith

i see where your concern is coming from, but this thought process applies more to resellers who buy up high quality thrift store inventory en masse to sell, and leave behind only fast fashion discards. it’s a good thing for well off people to thrift for personal use! it reduces unnecessary consumption and waste
