I always though The Ninth Gate was a good source for WoD themes and story arcs. Spooky investigations with ominous supernatural repercussions.

Your list is great. Here are some I would add. 1. Clive Barker's Nightbreed. A graveyard with a complex series of living spaces for monsters who all take care of each other. 2. Any John Wick movie shows a lot of World of Darkness because of the havens, displays of wealth it's almost incomprehensible, and system of boons, promises, etc. 3. Only Lovers Left Alive has both deeply depressed Toreadors (basically) and a beautiful look at a decaying Detroit. Given that It Follows has that same decaying Detroit thing going on, in my head, they take place at the same time. 4. Let the Right One In is great to study for the romance, horror, and tragedy of becoming a Ghoul. Of course in WoD, the vampire could have kept their Ghouls from aging, but I think the emotional damage is the same. 5. Byzantium's vampire system is nothing like WoD, but it does a good job of showing the intricacies of Sire/Childe relationships and how Toreadors navigate the world.

Here's my top 10 list, some of them are standard and obvious (Lost Boys, Dracula, The Crow) and others are unique (Saturday Night Fever, Death Note) 1. The Lost Boys (1987) 2. Casino (1995) 3. The Warriors (1979) 4. Death Note (2006-2007) 5. Taxi Driver (1976) 6. Saturday Night Fever (1977) (it makes sense in context) 7. Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) 8. The Crow (1994) 9. The Sopranos (1999-2007) 10. Gangs of New York (2002)

Great movie choices. The Departed is indeed a very special inspiration, it's so much Vampire the Masquerade. And a hell of a movie too, ofc. Also, Pan's Labyrinth has a lot of Changeling vibes.

I'd be interested in seeing your top 5 turn into a top 10. You have good taste in movies.

Just boosting this video…good job! This is someone who has watched probably most of your podcasts, from 25 Years of V:tM, to Playing Hooky, to Secrets of the Vault, to Two D10. I’ve been listening your podcasts ever since I found your review of Montreál by Night on my way home to work and have consumed most of what I can (without getting sick of hearing the same voices over and over lol). Thanks for the great content.

All good lists, would add Strange days, Another Bigalow film but really different from Near Dark Kiss of the vampire, for a frantic comedic take of Malkavian Predator 2 or Split Second, though there's already lots of tonal inspiration in other lists, the notion of Vampire as Monster can't be overstated Salem's Lot and The Strain, For that unknowable Ancient invading from across the pond And really left field choice, Closer (2004), for a really disturbing glympse of how romance between kine and kindred can turn sour and toxic. I know it's mentioned in the books, but has anyone called out the hunger?

I'd love to see a second list. I have only seen a three of these. The tossed list, however, I own most of. Haven't seen your top two, go figure.

The Departed is such a poor copy of Infernal Affairs, the movie it's based off of. I cringe every time someone praises it. Aside from The Departed, I really like your list.

Strangely, it's games and music for me. Silent Hill and Metal Gear V. Music like Rage Against the Machine, Mika Nakashima (for Demon the Fallen) Evanescence, Epica, and E.S Posthumous.

Ohh, would do a music one, but those would get copyright violations so fast! Great idea but without the actual music in the video, kinda pointless, sadly.

I'm sitting here screaming that you just ignored Clive Barker's Nightbreed, Jacob's Ladder and John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness. And because I like fun, I'll also include The Wraith.

Nah, didn’t ignore them. They just weren’t quite in my top 5. I struggled with Candyman over other CB films.
