Not even going to sit here and act like I care if Portland is ever part of the circus league that the NHL is. Much more exciting and traditional when winning a championship, means you go and play for the ultimate prize. That's what the Stanley Cup USED to be. Don't be shocked if another team goes in SW Ontario, and its not Hamilton/Toronto. Hearing some people between London and Kitchener want to make a bid and put an arena near the 401/403 interchange, putting over 1.8 million hockey crazy people within a 30 minute drive, and would fall outside of Toronto and Buffalo areas so they couldn't contest. Kitchener, London, Hamilton would all be a 30 minute drive from the arena, and those markets would easily travel to support a team. I know some former players who have been very successful in business since they retired who are interested in grouping up. And they have support from Woodstock to build the arena. 30 minutes outside the cities centers wouldn't be that far off for some teams. Many are located downtown, but there are some teams (Ottawa) where the team is way out in the suburbs.

Quebec should be over Atlanta. Quebec has city support, and they lost their team in the 90s because the owner anticipated loosing money (he never actually did) and sold the team when he was told he wasn’t getting government bailouts. Atlanta was mismanaged (not blaming the fans there) but got sold not even 15 years ago. Quebec wants the team bad. Not arguing them over Houston because Houston has like 7 or 8 times the population, an arena and a willing ownership group already (rockets owner showed interest, saying he’d love to have something going on at the Toyota center every day of the year). And the nhl prefers new cities over cities that used to have a team because everyone in Quebec is already a fan of hockey, whereas they hope to get more fans from the 6 million people living in greater Houston. It’s a natural rivalry with Dallas, and Dallas has learnt to embrace their team, showing that you could easily achieve success in Houston.

I’m curious about an NHL Team in New Orleans. the city has a rich sporting culture and is known for its passionate fans, which could translate to a successful hockey market and Having a city has a modern multi-purpose arena, the Smoothie King Center, which could host an NHL team. Thoughts on it?

I mean expansion in NHL its logical in Canada, border states and cities which lacks in sports teams. Atlanta failed twice already. Vegas succes have part in that city was lacking of professional sport at top level and also is easier to get tickets there than in NY,Toronto if you are European travelling through NA and you miss your favorite sport 😀

- Georgia was ranked 40th out of 50 states in overall hockey registration in 2022 - Georgia was ranked 46th out of 50 states in hockey registration per capita in 2022 - Hockey registration in Georgia was 0% in 1970. - Hockey registration in Georgia was 0.02% in 2022. - In 104 years it would be 0.04% growth rate… 52 years = 0.02% growth 26 years = 0.01% growth You are very low IQ if you think that is growth. That would be like having 100 people play hockey, and in 26 years you only have 101 people playing…. Georgia has worse hockey registration than EVERY PROVINCE, and ALL the least popualted states in America... What Growth????? 26 years and 1 new hockey player...You CANNOT GROW HOCKEY IN THE SOUTH FACTS. ALSO - The Atlanta Thrashers and Flames attendances were BAD....do not let anyone lie to you and tell you otherwise 2011 - 28th/30 teams in NHL attendance (13,469) 2010 - 28th/30 teams in NHL attendance (13,607) 2009 - 29th/30 teams in NHL attendance (14,626) 2008 - 22nd/30 teams in NHL attendance (15,831) 2007 - 21st/30 teams in NHL attendance (16,240) The inaugural season was the best attended season, it is NEVER a good sign when your first year is the most successful. 2007 was the Thrashers SECOND best season ever in attendance with a truly pathetic 16,240....and only good enough for 21st in the NHL that year. 2007 was also Atlanta's most successful year losing in the Eastern Conference Quarter Finals. So Atlanta Thrashers BEST attended season (16,240) would be 26th in today's NHL...and was only good enough for 21st in the NHL in 2007. Nothing about Atlanta says "success story"
