When parking in direct sunlight, make sure to use a windshield shade. Otherwise there's a good chance that the color will bubble up and peel off. Then you're dashboard will look like crap. I'm from WA. and it rains about 9 months out of the year here. We don't get blazing hot summers usually. I guess it's hot enough to make it peel though. It's like GM used plasti-dip on the dash.

My Top 5 issues with this model: 1) The Chevy Shake: This is a frame design flaw. GM recommends keeping 250lbs in bed. 2) Accessory belt slip and squeal: Simply use Armour All or tire shine on the backside of belt. 3) DOD 5.3 L engine consumes a ton of oil: Reprogram engine to not go into 4 cylinder mode. 4) Brakes can be very week and hard to push pedal. (Rear drum models): Master cylinder booster swap. 5) Water entry in rear doors: Pull plug from bottom of doors and let it always drain out. Bonus complaint: Rear fender wells in bed rot out if not sprayed inside via tail light removal.

He is right about the steering position sensor. I hit a nasty hole in the road and took my truck (2010 Silverado LS) to an independent shop to get it aligned. After driving for about 10 mins back home, I got the annoying orange triangle for the Stabilitrak system. Took it back and after several attempts, they could not figure it out and credit me back the alignment and diagnostic cost. I went to the dealer and they said it was the steering position sensor. OK but one big problem. GM does not make the 6 pin sensor for the 2nd gen anymore; they only make the 8 pin for the 3rd gen and up. I mentioned that the steering wheel was not at the 12 o'clock position when driving straight. They aligned it and got the steering wheel back. No more annoying orange triangle. If anyone has this problem make sure your steering wheel is at the 12 o'clock position when driving straight and you have a good alignment done before checking for any other causes that make the Service Stabilitrak light come on.

Disable the cylinder deactivation and you'll probably never have problems with the lifters,or oil consumption issues. We have 3 in our municipality fleet, we haven’t had any issues yet with throttle bodies or the brake switches, inside door handles yes and I used a Dorman kit for that, the steering angle sensors yes,and the blower motor and resistor block and connector has melted on all the trucks around 80,000 miles but our trucks have a ton of running hours with ac on sitting . Also these trucks have all cracked the transmission dipstick tube just above the mounting tab above the trans mounting bolt. The lower steering shafts seize up here in the salt belt just like the 01-07 classics. We’ve also had a few front brake pull issues and the steel 18” base rims that come on the 10,700 GVWR 1 ton single wheel trucks bend very easily.Weve had several now..... The brake line materials are way better than the 01-07 classics however the trans cooler lines and oil cooler lines are no better trans lines are rusting out and oil cooler lines are leaking at the fittings ....

Truth, but instead of the silly range device get an actual tune on the truck and get the AFM disabled that way as well as firm up and change shift points, and throttle sensitivity. I hated the way my truck drove before that. Now I love it, it performs and drives much better after the black bear tune even though I did give up some mpg. 122k miles so far on my 2012 1500 and it’s needed nothing. Bought it with 74k miles and changed every fluid, leveled it and better shocks, tires, and LED lights and it’s everything I need. Well everything except it’s got the stupid 3.08 gears in it, but those are getting swapped out.

@@chevyon37s that’s exactly what I did. I bought the AFM disabler and that was a game changer for my 08 Silverado which had 140K on it when I bought it a year ago. Since I have another vehicle and I van pool to work, I’m only averaging about 6000 miles a year so at this rate, I expect this truck to last me a long time as long as I continue to keep it serviced at the proper intervals.

excellent video! The insurance companies with all their stupid commercials that we skip past.the body repair shops and mechanic shops.and parts suppliers are all in bed together against us.all of them.especially in macon ga.criminal fraud on a gigantic level.dont be their victim.

My 2009 is going strong. I do need to replace the brake light switch. Occasionally the cruse will not work. I don’t drive the truck on the interstate enough to fix it.

09 has had 2 of these. Throttle body, and brake switch killed my crude control. Also air bag sensor under the front end.

For everyone, the high oil consumption is actually by design. It’s the Automatic Fuel Management AFM. When the AFM shuts off the 4 cylinders, it squirts a little extra oil into those valves to keep them lubricated. When they start back up, that oil is burnt. I had that problem along with carbon buildup on those four spark plugs from the extra oil. I got an AFM disabler, with keeps it in V8 and it fixed those problems. I lost a mile or two in gas mileage, but the truck runs so much smoother and the power is instantaneous on acceleration.

Water leaks are another issue, especially around the third brake light and the top right of the passanger and driver's side weatherstripping (a plastic pin that goes in a hole can be the culprit).

New subscriber here. Excellent content. I’ve had the thumping noise that you described for a while and have noticed my steering has become a little stiffer. I will get that checked out. My question is this, suddenly my 2009 Chevy Silverado, Z 71 radio comes on and off intermittently. Also, the air condition comes on and off, but not as frequent as the radio. I also noticed that the voltage meter seems to move up from 12, but it never dropped below 12. Can you tell me where the problem is on my truck. Thank you!

Another: fuel pump rotting out, and the fuel line leaking. Cost me $400 to replace the pump, and the EVAP line that got stuck. Had to drop the tank because my box bolts rotten also and broke, but regardless why the hell GM decided to have the entire fuel tank and parts ALL plastic accept the top of the pump sooo of course up here in MN, winters are harsh and the salt ate my pump to where my high pressure line started to leak. Kind of a PITA to do. Friends 02 Silverado has all plastic accept the retainer ring. much easier

What I did was unbolt the bed of the truck. (About 8) Brother and I then carried it off by lifting through the wheel wells. Easy access to the charcoal canister and pump.

In 2009, check that brake light switch before tearing into the steering wheel to fix cruise control !! A two vs 150 buck investment plus your replacing parts that are NOT BROKEN !

That salt there is murder on those vehicles. Terrible condition of metal. Salt on roads is a big lie. Totally unnecessary. Like opioids it’s a money-making scam.

What about the broken arm rest. I think that's a bigger problem than the inside door handles. Mine are up top and chrome. Dr is fine but pass the chrome is peeling and sharp as hell. Dr door arm rest broke after about 6mo of owning it.

One thing missing that I've heard about these models is the audio system is a little cheap so the speakers or radio will short out after about a year. Personally my front door speakers come on and off time to time. Rn only my driver door isnt working

I am curious that my truck is getting poor gas mileage. My truck runs like a top and my mechanic said that my truck has a damn good engine. It seems to me, everytime I turn around I am having to stop to get gas. Can I install a smaller diameter fuel line system??? The reason I ask is because my collision repair instructor suggested this secret to my class some years ago. Any response will very much appreciated, thank you.

Great info but my 2008 silverado cracked dash door lock actuators map sensor tps sensor 4 set of leaf springs rust around third light oil consumtion and a lot of paint chips all services done by the book not an abused truck but with 136 k miles still running
@chevyon37s

The 07-10 trucks were far worse than the 11-13 trucks. (Think about what was happening with GM in ‘08) changes to AFM system were made to 2011 and newer that stopped most oil consumption issues. Different interiors fixed cracking dashes. You probably keep your truck outside and have had water leak into the cab causing switch issues and rust at 3rd brake light, rock chips are related to where and how you drive and some what of the worse paint quality due to GM financial troubles in 08. And I’m not sure what you’re doing to ruin leaf springs...

Was hoping this video would have something about oil pressure sensor problems. I get intermittent P0521 code on my 2012. Seems like it happens more often when it is cold. Sometimes idling it for 5 minutes keeps it from coming up.
