Good video. These really are great cars and quite practical too. My other half and I can do a weekend away with a 6'1 surfboard, esky and soft bags in the back no worries (can't do that in my ND MX5). I've unplugged the fake sound a number of times but always end up plugging it back in. The fake sound is similar to the natural sound only a little louder and more substantial sounding. My conclusion is the fake sound is well judged as with a cat back exhaust I find the engine sound (fake) and exhaust blend nicely. Sounds a little tinny/hollow with the sound unplugged.

Re. Rear seats: Grandpa, buy a minivan, this car is not for you Re. Boot space: Grandpa, either buy minivan or return to a retirement home Re. Safety tech: Buy the last model of TV and continue staying in the retirement home Re. Notchy gear shift: Don't part from your automatic Chrysler minivan Re. Engine sound: There's something you can not see on your color TV - aftermarket exhausts

@@Felix-h5n Haha. Thanks for the grandpa reference. I realise young people are very sensitive, but there’s no need to get upset mate. These cars are fantastic, as I said at the end. I do these videos simply to point out potential concerns. Sometimes it is hard to find 5 negatives, as was the case with this one. PS. The gearbox is notchy compared with an MX-5, competing in the same class. And some rivals do offer more safety tech. These are simply facts.

I suppose with the lack of safety tech they can keep the weight down, so you can turn that into a positive 😄, but totally agree, the engine sounds rubbish. A nice aftermarket exhaust should fix that.

From what I understand the new version of this car will use the GR Yaris 3 cylinder turbo engine

Yep, engine sound is very important to the whole driving experience especially during spirited driving (in my opinion 😉)!

Disagree on the rear seats, my 5 year old fits in there just fine if you move the passenger seat forward most of the way, with more than enough leg room and she's tall for her age. People would miss them if they weren't there... Boot space is way better than an MX-5, so good enough I'd say. Agree on the safety tech missing from the manual for the first two model years, that was very disappointing, but glad it has bind spot monitor. My biggest gripe is the gear shift, very difficult shifting into certain gears, especially say from 2nd->6th, it's quite nasty. Agreed that the engine could sound better.

I certainly agree on the engine sound point, I personally feel the engine sound is one of the most important parts of a car, as someone who owns a 2011 petrol Hyundai I30, the driving experience is rather dull, add the fact it's slow meaning you HAVE to rev it out so hard just to keep the flow of traffic is quite boring, previously I mainly drove a 2013 Mazda CX-9 and yes the fuel economy was significantly worse, yes it was a bit less comfortable, but it was still so much better when I put my foot down and hearing this sonorous note of a V6 under the bonnet

Yep. ANCAP here in Australia is not the most thorough in my opinion. They have rules that are basically tick-boxes. Driver monitor camera, for example. It doesn't matter how well it works (or not) as long as it has it, that's ticked off and can achieve five stars.

Love these breakdowns, mate - very thorough and always a balanced take. Your experience in the industry is super helpful in putting these vehicles in context. Gotta love the GR86/BRZ - their handling is immense and the revised engine sorts out that power we were all hoping for in the 1st gen

The safety tech (eyesight) was added to the manual transmission car this year, a first. It has almost every safety feature you can think of. Were you aware of that when you made this video?
