I had a somewhat unusual gaming childhood in that rather than having consoles, my first major experiences with gaming were through a CD-ROM someone gave my dad that contained a (somewhat primitive and janky, but usable for most games) Genesis emulator and a bunch of games. Mind you, this was way back in the Windows 98 days. But I played so many weird Genesis games in there that I didn't even realise what they really were - so many were obscure japanese exclusives for example, or even unreleased games like the Genesis port of Tetris which had its release ultimately cancelled at the last moment due to Nintendo acquiring the license for console ports of Tetris (and from what i understand, is also a very infamously expensive game for collectors, although since it was never really officially sold it would not qualify for your list). I remember playing two of the games in your list in this emulator, Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel, which I frankly liked more than both the Aero the Acro-bat games, and Crusader of Centy (which was released as Soleil in PAL regions) was a really competent Zelda rival, although maybe going head-to-head with ALTTP on the SNES was rough. I'm not going to lie, I didn't realize that it was made by Atlus until now... Either way, it makes me happy to see games that, weirdly enough, were fixtures of my childhood at some point, get more exposure all those years later. (I always thought that if I were ever to become a streamer or youtuber or anything I should do a challenge where I beat every Genesis game much like TheMexicanRunner did with every NES game a few years back and it would be a nice way to revisit, review and rediscover many of these games now... But alas, I don't really have the time for that quite yet 😅)

I'm kind of the same here; my grandfather has a folder that has over 400 pc games in it, and I played some of them when I was little. Albeit, the games are from the early to mid 2000s, and were conceded old even in the early 2010s (which was when I was a toddler.) I did get a 3DS when I was five, and later a Wii U, but I would spend hours playing some of these games, which are favorites of mine even to this day. I have lots of nostalgia playing games like Gutterball 2, which is a bowling game that has themed alleys you can play on. You can even make your own bowling ball by uploading a JPEG to the game. It also has commutators that roast you when you screw up. There's also Qubeez, which is a puzzle game that has a bunch of sentient cubes that you clear by clicking pairs of at least two cubes of the same color, and you have clear the board or get to where you can't clear any more cubes before the timer runs out. The timer is represented by a clear pipe filled with water that progressively fills up with water. Once the water reaches the top, the water will overflow into the board, drowning the cubes, which ends the game. Clicking a single cube not in a pair takes 1,000 points off your score. And bigger pairs give more points. Clearing all cubes lets you view a skippable cutscene, and awards you 100,000 points. The game is infinite; you keep playing until you quit or get a game over. And as you play more rounds, the number of cubes increase. Every 10 rounds, the amount of cubes resets back to the lowest amount, but with a smaller time limit, and the cycle repeats. Crazy how we both have memories of playing obscure games in our childhoods.

MA-13 was Sega’s equivalent to a TEEN Rating BEFORE the ESRB was a thing. MA-17 would be the equivalent for what we now call a “M-Rated aka Mature” Game. With “GA” being equal to “E to E10+ Games”. 😉

You know what absolutely disgusts me? I had the top two games as a kid. They were both lost in a house fire as a kid, Centy was fun and always reminded me of Link to the Past, Joey though we never could use. Didn't realize why, but it had come with the used genesis we got from an old used furniture store and sold on consignment I think. I can't remember if it had a case or manual, I remember it was definitely in a plastic case, but that was it. Centi was complete with its manual. I don't remember if it had anything else in there, was one of those cardboard slip case designs that you occasionally see, usually on budget or just much later titles-in the U.S. Europe and Japan didn't see that, I don't think. It is a game I would have loved to have picked up again, wasn't able to think about that until after I finished with my student loan debts which was middle of 2019. Unfortunate timing. Wasn't exactly big on sega systems or games but there were a few I loved enough that I have collected again, Centy is still on my radar but, not likely. Anyway.

Aren't Fantasia and Tetris even rarer NTSC games for the Genesis? According to TCRF, Fantasia was given the official license by mistake, and all unsold copies were destroyed (thenapproximately 1,000 sold copies are what's left), and Sega pulled out from releasing Tetris on the platform at the last minute; I think there's only 10~ physical copies of that specific version of Tetris in existence?
@MegaPaige

Was looking for a comment like this. You are totally right, thoughI didn't expect Fantasia to make the list since it sells for so little (it seems people assume expensive = rare, which isn't always true!). My guess is Tetris is excluded because it was only developed for the JP Mega Drive

There is an intresting honorable mention i would like to add and that is Aerobiz Supersonic. While only a bit above 60 dollars lose it is very intresting because it is a airline sim and on top of that a sequel which is just very odd for the 90's. The idea is you are an airline and you pick from one of 3 time periods i am pretty sure competing with other airlines to be the best something that you might see as a moblie game today. The original game just called Aerobiz was on both the Genesis and the SNES and is much cheaper lose being around 30 dollars on either console. With the sequel well it goes up a bit with the SNES around 50 and again the Genesis around 60 and CIB are those same prices but add 100 dollars to them for the sequel and about 50-60 dollars for the original game. This one sticks out to me because i got my Genesis copy for only 15 dollars at a half price books. Now the prices have gone down a bit since the pandemic has ended but the trends show at least lose carts arent really changing that much.

It’s easy to imagine Grind Stormer/V-V (vee five) getting an M2 Shot Triggers release. It would be bundled with Slap Fight (also a rare as rocking horse shit release on the Japanese Mega Drive. Man, what is it with shmups in retro gaming being ultra rare? Maybe it’s because niche meaning they won’t be for everyone? Who knows.) for a Toaplan Arcade Garage release including the arcade and Genesis versions. I can also imagine MUSHA being part of another Aleste Collection. I’d prefer having another CAVE or Raizing title for a M2STG release because I’m a danmaku fan but it’s important to preserve the past for us to discover.

Zero is another one of those games on Genesis and SNES that has more screen real estate on Sega. Otherwise, they play pretty much the same, and I think it's an above average platformer, so many different moves you can do. But more screen does usually equal a better time playing the game, being able to see enemies in time to react and all that.
