Hi There, So I stumbled on your You Tube vids by accident today, I'm now slowly ploughing my way through your most recent vids. All credit to you, your personality and content is quite infectious. Really enjoying watching them. A wide variety of interesting topics, keep going the way you are, great content. And yes I've liked and become a subscriber. Love the outtakes, you're real just like the rest of us 👍

Avoid the VW and the Ford in the suv segment. Just look up Ford Power Shift gear box, and duel clutch VW gearbox. This video channel misses lots of things for many cars. Might be safe because it will be broken most of the time.

Safety is paramount when buying a car. My Suzuki XP 1997 🚗 is old school, don’t belive it will pass the safetyvtest those days, but still on the road.

I would say reliability is a massive factor. Even though the Range Rover 2023 and Jeep Grand Cherokee L undoubtedly have more safety than any 2020 Landcruiser but I would only consider one of the three safe enough to drive me there and back from remote locations consistently

Jeeps and Range Rovers are incredibly safe I'd suggest, the tow truck absorbs most of impact .

I think they cover that extensively in their general “best first car” videos, this ones just focussing on crash safety. Though tbh almost all cars after 2010, with side+curtain airbags and ESC get 5 stars for structural safety.

@@MrWilliam.Stewart haha very true should buy a range rover but seriously they are very safe thought a landcruiser is very safe aswell most big 4wds that are modern are pretty good in crashes.

Must say im surprised the Alfa Romeo Mito wasnt on the list for the small cars. higher safety than the City and quite a spacious boot! Must say I can personally fit quite alot into the boot and more ontop with laying the seats down, a bit better than a City, and theyre better on fuel than a City. However I wouldnt recommend an auto. But my manual is about to hit 240,000 kms and its only 7 years old (2015 model). You can usually pick one up between 6-8k nowadays But i got mine for 5k before the covid price hikes.

Great video, mates! Surprised of the Kia Soul in the list, as I aways find it interesting, but not sure of reliability. Safety is always a consideration (but needs to be reliable as breaking down the road isn’t really always safe). How about the Rav4, CRV, Accord for safety? Also didn’t expect that BMW and Benz will not make the list 😁

Good list guys. A lot more European/American cars making an appearance on this list though as you said some of them have suspect reliability at most for quite a few of them. I'd say safety plays a role in picking my next car but its definitely not the top priority but definitely in the top 3 things of importance. I'd say reliability is the top priority for picking a new car for myself. Look forward too Friday's video with baited breath guys and definitely wondering what you have planned for an end of year round up for this year.

It makes sense, if we’re looking at cheaper cars it’s going to be older cars. I’d say after 2010, almost all cars with ESC and 6 airbags will get the prerequisite 5 star rating. But if we’re going cheap and looking at 2000-2010 then for sure I see why a Volvo would beat a Corolla of the same era. European and/or luxury cars of that era definitely had an edge in crash safety before it got democratised across the board.
@MartinJones123

Some more cars I'd add is a 2010 era Commodore or Falcon, as well as anything German despite the later being risky for reliability...

We had a 2008 Mondeo TDCI and it gave us 150k of trouble-free kilometers. We changed the gearbox oil every 50k and serviced it on time and the only thing that wen't wrong in that entire time was the fuel flap lock. (along with normal wear are tear like front suspension giving out at 130k). Sold it and now have the Escape and its been good as well. One thing you cannot do with European cars is skip services.......

In South Africa 🇿🇦 we call the Honda City a Honda Ballade.. I am pushing 228500 kms on the clock and the car still feels brand new. Fuel economy is mostly @ 5.8L city driving. It's a fuel sipper

I was surprised to see the Ford Kuga on this list - in South Africa, their legacy is that dozens of them spontaneously caught fire, and several people burned to death. Ford absolutely botched their response to the issue - one family, after losing a man in a fire and demanding accountability from Ford, was offered a Ford Everest.

Great video but a total failure to mention a volvo xc60 in the small-midsize suv list, it passes the small overlapp early kuga/tiguans don't, it's one of the first car with autobreaking and arguably decently reliable in d5 and t6 spec while being safer then an xc90 in Side impacts according to iihs and 12k can get you a good condition with 160k km on the dial it's a big oversight really for advice. I say this with some bias as an owner of an xc60 t6 thought.
