+Doodle On A Motorcycle come to the fun side... :). I like the upright riding body position, feels most "ready" and sport bikes have a quick and exhilarating personality to ride! Hope u get to try more bikes out this season. Be patient and keep your current bike as long as u can tolerate, no need to rush in changing bikes. However when u are looking, consider the Ninja 650, sv650 look up to see the other look this bike has with the pointy lights and front fairings, or fz07. They may suit u!

My first street bike was a 96 Suzuki savage, single cylinder 650, 24” seat height for my 28” inseam, I can flat foot on the rear seat. A cruiser but I highly recommend this bike for new/ short riders. Tops out around 90 but runs well on the highway, she’s been cross country several times. My 2nd, the SV650, I lowered her 4” with dog bones, front forks to match, ( this did require a shorter kickstand )custom Corbin seat gave me a lower position and more comfort. I was still unable to get the balls of my feet on the ground, peg position, no chance of “duck walking”, rear sets solved the problem. Though I had to upgrade the shock / stiffen the suspension in order to haul passengers twice my size. I still have both bikes + , but the SV is still my favorite ride. Love your videos, I’ve been trolling short rider vids because I just picked up an old 99 Yamaha xt350. It takes every bit of my 110lbs to kick her, 34” seat, and I’m going to attempt riding her as she is, conquering my short girl insecurities, developing some off road skills.

That's so great to hear, thank u for the positive feedback, hope you get to go sit on them at the dealership to help you with your decision! I wish I spoke of how the R3 is a bit lighter in weight as well. Either bike would be great to own! I have a soft spot for the Ninja 300 because it came out a month after I bought my 250. Being the shiny and new generation, I was so excited for it, all the new tech advancements (fuel injected vs carbureted) the digital dash, the cool new look!!! Also the gear indicator and clock! haha (the little things). You can't go wrong with either bike. :)

I just purchased my first bike, a new 2015 leftover Honda NC700X. This bike wasn't even on my radar until I sat on it and OMG it's all me! It's great because it has a sporty look, a more upright seating position, and you actually sit on the gas tank- where the tank is usually located is a big storage compartment. This helps keep the weight lower so the bike itself feels lighter than comparable ones. It has plenty of room to lower it if you want (I have a 31" inseam so I'm not going to lower it, but took the seat pad off and using foam instead so I can be flat-footed until I get my "bike legs". The power comes on at a lower RPM (the engine is 1/2 of a Honda Accord engine!) so everything is pretty mellow for a beginner. :)

I was actually thinking about getting an R3. I'm glad it's your #1. :) I'm currently riding a CBR125R and it's good option as well for beginners and short riders. It's low on power though, but I was really surprised I could get up to decent speed on the highway with it. I used to have an old '89 Ninja 250R and my CBR125R can go as fast as my old Ninja250 and hit top speed at lower RPM's. Maybe it's because the CBR is fuel injected and newer technology, not sure. But that's another option.
@cherrieblossoms

The CBR125R is a great bike, I learned on one too at one of the Motorcycle training schools, and borrowed it for the road exam too. It definitely leaves more to be desired on the power side, hope you enjoy your upcoming new choice!

Depends what you plan on doing, what your needs are for the ride. Great for learning as they are small in height and engine size. A ton of fun! However downside might be that they aren't that powerful compared to a 250/300cc, so it depends where u live and where u plan on driving it.

I’m worried I wouldn’t be able to lift the bike off of me if I ever fall down - lol is that a legit concern and/or should it stop me? Great video! I agree with your choices but I would include the Ninja 650 to this list. I started riding 26 years ago on a 1987 Ninja 500 left Kawasaki for Yamaha many years ago until Aug of 2016 when I bought a 2016 Kawi Ninja 650. I love this bike. Nice usable powerband lots of low end torque ( especially nice for the hills here in my part of California) cant't remember the exact seat height but it is pretty close to the 30.9 on the other bikes. I am 5'8 with a 30 in inseam and both feet and I am flatfoot on both sides. Only downside for beginners is the weight I believe it is around 465 wet, however, the 2017 model has added a few great features for beginners. First they dropped 42 lbs from the weight, second added a gear indicator, plus some minor other things. I would pick the Ninja 650 over the SV 650 any day but that is just my opinion. If you haven't checked out the Ninja 650 please do.

Yes the Ninja 650, I highly recommend it to people too, however the reason I didn't think of it for my list, is because when i was a beginner rider, I thought it was too much (in weight, height and power)... perhaps the SV650 that I suggested would be too much for 'new' riders too. It seems like u do get 'more bike' when compared to the SV650, but I think for beginners, the "low RPM assist" would be a beneficial feature
@patrickpiane5603

I agree with everything you said, and I wouldn't recommend my 2016 or earlier to a beginner for those reasons but I really would like to see you do video on the new 2017 models and test ride when available Kawasaki has addressed many of those concerns about weight etc... although height is still an issue for shorter riders seat height is 31.7 inches. I think you'll add it to your next list of best beginner bikes but probably not good for a list of bike for shorter people. I am interested in the low RPM assist never had a bike with it but it does seem like a big help so that's a plus for the SV650. Thanks for the reply I enjoy your channel. BTW my significant other rides as well and really enjoys her little ninja 300. She is on the shorter side too (5'2") so she appreciates your content for shorties.

Indeed! very good points. Would love to try riding it if I get the opportunity to. I just tried sitting on the brand new 2017 Ninja 650 (didn't realize it was at the dealership) and it's indeed a reasonable seat height! was tippy toed. Hard to remember how the previous ninja 650 model was, there wasn't one to sit on to compare. The ninja 300 is still a bit lower, and lighter of course, i can get the balls of my feet down for reference. Great to hear she loves to ride too, thanks for the encouragement!

weight of bike and if it has a low center of gravity helps also. Wide saddles are not helpful. End of the day you want to be comfortable. If I had a very tall passenger I ASKED THEM TO PUT THEIR FEET DOWN. Luv to see you on a Triumph Bobber or Triumph Street twin.

Hi, wondering if you've every tried the Yamaha MT-07 and how it compares to the R3 in terms of size and handling? Looking at picking up my first bike; 5'4 :)
@cherrieblossoms

It's a lot more bike in every way than an R3. If you are experienced go for the MT07, but if you are super new, might be a better idea to start smaller.

I got a couple of seasons on my Ninja 300R, and I want to upgrade to 600cc. I'm looking at the FZ07 and 2006-up GSXR600/750. How are those seat heights compared to the Ninja 300?
@cherrieblossoms
7 жыл бұрын
They are both going to feel A LOT taller. Hopefully with having couple years experience will have helped you build the core strength, and balance. The FZ07 is going to have more of an upright position of the choices you mentioned, where the GSXR's will have a sport position, where you are leaned in/down. The GSXR 600 is the lowest of the 600's sports (of Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawi, Honda). The GSXR 750 is too big for me to ride comfortably to own in my opinion, for someone as small as I.

Viktorija Matvejeva Nice, im in USA, as long as you have a permit at 16 you can ride any bike you want but you can legally buy a motorcycle at ANY age from a private seller it just wouldn’t be legal to ride it until you have a permit here, you could ride a dirt bike here at any age if it’s your parents although i already know how to drive due to my dad used to be a mechanic and owned his own shop when i was like 4, so i have an obsession with muscle cars 😂 and i could get my dream car but i decided a motorcycle would be better cause I’m joining my local sheriff department (my father was also a police officer for 20 yrs) and I’m joining a volunteer fire station in the next county over, i wouldn’t care nearly as much if the bike was wrecked with burned ash’s and bullet holes lol if it was my dream car I would literally die

You can reduce the height of motorcycles if you research the lowering links for that model. Other alternative to lowering a bike is "shaving the seat (altering the padding in the seat)" or get thicker sole boots is something to consider

I have seen the local Suzuki dealer had new 600 gxr for sale that were lowered. The modification was only a couple of hundred dollars more. And it didn't void the warranty since they did the work.
