Can’t believe the wooly bugger didn’t make the list. It’s an outstanding fly for smallmouth bass especially but it’s known to catch almost any fish

Hey Alvin one fly that get's over looked for trolling is a Royal Coachmen size 6 with a Marabou Wing. Also good for time's like winter Rainbow trout trolling. Just saying. A friend of mine who is a fishing nut when he's not commercial trolling for Salmon. It's like an old school favorite and easy to tie. Did I say Marabou Wing ya but not enough. Just saying.

A great selection of flies, love the look of the Krelex, might be a useful pattern for use here in the UK at the start of the trout season.

Bob Clouser has said that if he could only have one color, it'd be all white. I also love olive/white in clear water.

I also have heard of him saying that if he tied them using as little deer hair as he would like folks wouldn't buy them because they would be to small and not appealing to the human eye.

So I'm in Kreelex country. That would be Parkersburg, WV, current home of Kreinik, the company that makes the original Kreelex flash. I just found out that Kreinik is moving to California per their website. Doug Kreinik is retiring and the company has been sold. Supposely, there will be an 8-week delay in any orders from the factory during this move/transition. I've never tied or tried the Kreelex fly, but this video is going to be my segway into tying them. Thanks!

Thanks for posting. I wish more people would fly fish for bass. I live in prime shoalbass water and it can be challenging to get decent info on fly fishing bass techniques. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the video! The Kreelex probably works really well in the winter because it looks like a dying shad. That's why the gear guys use spoons and jig lipless cranks that time of the year.

Getting back in to fly fishing after 15 years. Always fished poppers and topwater with floating line. When using subsurface flies, do you recommend switching out to a sink tip or sinking line?
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
8 ай бұрын
Just depends on how deep you need to get. We use sinking tip lines during the cooler months and fish sinking flies on floating lines during the warmer months.

Super video, Alvin - thanks. I love the Kreelex and tie them in a #10 to target big bluegills. I tie them in larger sizes for bass but was wondering which size you most commonly use? Thanks again and tight lines.
