Hey im 17 6ft 135 pounds I’d like to gain weight the healthy way could someone tell me what to eat and what time of the day to eat i used to drink protein shakes for breakfast the recipe was: Oatmeal 2 table spoon peanut butter Whole milk 200 calories Molasses 1 table spoon 1 banana 20 grams of collagen peptides But after realizing it was actually bad for me to had these ingredients as breakfast apparently it spike insulin and i would always feel sleepy fatigued and tired for the rest of the day. I did some research and it was saying too much protein can make you sleepy so i stop drinking protein shakes. So now im wondering should i take protein shake 2 hours before going sleep at night so threw the night i sleep comfortably and workout to use that extra calories and trun it into muscle ? You're saving my life man. Truly, thank you. I had accute kidney failure and found your channel. With some experimentation I was able to determine that my urine cleared up, and my edma is reducing fast (overnight), and my nocturia has gone away, by drinking 9 cups of water per day and by eating less meat. I have been earing 1.5lbs of meat every day. 16oz of 93% lean ground turkey thigh and 8oz of pork tenderloin every other day and 16oz of 93% lean ground turkey and 6oz of wild sockeye salmon or 8oz of farmed rainbow trout the other days. I did this because I was told a macro ratio of 30% protein was ideal, so I was eating 30% protein, 40% (net carbs, exclusing fiber, all whole grains and produce) and 30% fats. This amounted to 266g of protein per day. Every single day. For reference, I weigh 177lbs but my goal weight is 185lbs - 205lbs at 11% bodyfat. I actually remember NASM teaching the dangers of high protein diets, but I didn't believe them. However, I am now forced to believe aren't I? Boy. I just want to get rid of edwma and have clear urine again and not die. I'm not sure my athletic goals are more important than preventing chronic kidney disease anymore. I'm very confused as to why anyone recommends 30, 40, 30 macro splits anymore. Sure my muscles grew very well, but at what cost... I'm not suicidal.

One of the reasons I started keto was I had either too much sugar in my diet leaving me with itchy feet, or chilblains or gout. My GP and my podiatrist couldn't agree so I started the keto diet and my cholesterol dropped from around 5 to around 2.25 and my feet stopped itching. However, for a good 15 years before that I've had lymphodema, actually my next appointment at the local hospital lymphodema clinic is tomorrow, and since they saw me last (twice a year) I've lost about 25 pounds, so they'll be pleasantly surprised. My legs are measured and new pressure garments are ordered for my legs (just to the knee). To me all my issues with weight, blood pressure, acute pain, inflammation in my joints and back, they're all related. After all, they're in the same body. What surprises me most is each time I have to see a doctor they work in isolation on the specific issue, ignoring my history, other ailments, just everything. I still feel that what I've done (and now got my sister following your advice too) with keto is helping me recover and get closer to a healthier and more useful life. A couple of years ago when I had the stroke and no doctor would believe it (took almost a year before I got a stroke specialist to scan my brain and then apologize for the NHS's lack of a simple scan to get the facts) I was at my lowest. Today, I find myself smiling and feeling peaceful with no reason. I have gone from the lowest sense of despair and hopelessness to contented happiness even though I still have plenty to worry about. I really do feel this is in great part due to your advice and guidance. Thank you, Dr. Berg.

Example, your recent statement that cholesterol must be at correct level in order for the skin to produce vitamin D from sunlight. That was a big help to me. Also, recently you explained that persistent high insulin level leads to brain degradation. Now here you explain symptoms to determine if one is consuming too much protein. That means your kidneys were likely having trouble. A healthy kidney does not filter out protein. Proteinuria is a sign of nephrotic syndrome or kidney failure (depending on the amount of protein in urine). I can't believe your doctor said he didn't know. I have to disagree with Dr. Berg on this one, proteinuria is serious and not merely due to overconsumption of protein. It can happen occasionally to healthy individuals but it should be investigated to rule out kidney disease...

With at least some of the water having some lemon juice in it so as to infuse the water with electrolytes & nutrients & not to wash out such beneficial & necessary elements with pure water. For whatever the reasons, Paul the apostle said in one of his two NT letters to the young minister Timothy, "Drink no longer water but a little oinos [i.e., contextually, 'juice,' not an 'fermented, alcoholic beverage'] for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities." Some have said that the prohibition was due to the poor quality of the water where Timothy was located at the time, but I don't think it need be that for what Paul said to have been very well-informed advice. He even advised "a little," for consumption of too much juices, particularly the sugary sort, is a whole other problem.

@KTTGHMTJWYCBLAC that’s true if you flush and the bubbles go away you’re good. Just to add the bubbles can be other things like how fast you urinate. One would even say it’s metabolic and that you’re not absorbing the fats as fast as you breaking it down. Which I would lean more towards that since this it didn’t start until I was in ketosis and burning a lot of stored fat.

Great information. This appears to be a chicken and egg situation with protein. How foamy is foamy? I have foamy urine but mostly towards the end of my IF. Also does the source of the protein have an affect? Grass fed vs grain fed beef. Muscle vs organ meat. When I increase my water it has an affect on my urine. The whole “purine” issue appears to dubious. There is no definitive source or research on purines. Gout may be due to excess sugar (hfcs) and not protein.

How foamy is foamy? In the toilet bowl. A normal urine( not other symptoms) will only create foam less about than 1/6 of the surface of the water and they dispersed very fast( less than 5 secs), almost immediate. Just like you pouring red wine into a glasses. A foamy urine- anything that occupy more than half the water surface of the toilet bowl and it goes away slow( more than 5 secs). I had been eating great amount(160g) of chocolate( with hazel nut) daily recently. Why? I find that i have less joints pain after eating it so i just make it a point to do it( for craving too) And after a few days, i realised my urine start forming up. It was pretty quick, i dun see gradually increased but big amount. Initially i thought its because the toilet might have detergent residue after we washed the toilet, but it is not. Just do a simple test, flush the toilet 2 to 3 times. Use any container to pour water into the toilet bowl like the way you urine...

Dr. Eric, I've been on keto+if for two months now. But, i'm not been able to eat vegetables anymore. I don't know what is happening. Everytime I try too eat them, I feel bad I feel like a need to vomit. I've always loved veggies. Plus, i've been lately experiencing all theses symptoms: foamy urine, not hungry (even doing OMAD), fatigue. I was forced to come back eating rice and even rice i'm not feeling good when I eat. I don't know what to do. I would appreciate very much if you could help me. I already lost about 70 pounds thanks to your videos. Thank you so much.

Does your guideline also apply two individuals that are working out 2 hours a day at the gym! I'm under the impression that you need more protein in your diet when you have cardio and weight training 5 to 6 days a week.
@TrustNJesusChrist
5 жыл бұрын
You do. Again, the how much protein you need isn't cut and dry. Weight lifters/crossfitters NEED more protein and other nutrients than just your normal joe. And there are tons of athletic gurus out there that have debunked the kidney myth. You need to have an already messed up kidney or are prone to kidney disease for protein to have any effect on your body. Fact is, if you are a gym rat, you should be consuming 1g per pound or more if you are a competitor and trying to really pack on muscle.

3 ounces per meal sounds near the upper limit for an average person. Times 3 meals a day and we're already over 250g a day. Is this correct?
@hadavisjr
2 жыл бұрын
3 ounces of 80/20 beef contains 25 grams of protein, and so no, three times a day doesn't remotely exceed any limits. That said, a good gage is.7g per pound of body weight, if you're a normal, non-sedentary person. If, however, you train hard -- especially with heavy weight -- then you'll want *AT LEAST* 1g per pound of body weight, and going as high as 1.5g is okay. The critical angle is not to consume high amounts of carbs and to ensure you get plenty of quality fats.

Up to 8oz per meal. With 3 meals thats 24oz protein per day and he calls that a moderate amount? Did i get it wrong? That would be about 680 grams of protein a day. Maybe i made a mistake with my calculation, as a non american i'm always unsure about your metrics like "oz" over there.

Theres a lot of questions about this would someone with proteinuria have foam in urine even if they urinated into a cup or sat down on toilet while urinating? Some people have foam that lasts for minutes but only when standing up. Once they decrease the distance and pee on the wall of the bowl, the foam is not really there
@gottmituns6628
Жыл бұрын
Proteinurea would be foam no matter what you do and it persists after flushing. I get foamy pee upon standing but not when seated or in a cup, also, urinalysis showed negative protein in urine. If you are foamy only standing up, it’s either benign postural proteinurea or not protein at all

“Dr.” Berg is very inconsistent with this. He measures carbs in modern metric grams (not ounces of carb sources like bread) however with protein he uses the weight of a protein source in old imperial measurements and just calls it protein even though even the leanest meat is only 1/3 pure protein by weight of the item.

so ur suggesting less that 60gs of protein ? that doesn't seem right 30 grams of protein can be digested per hour that does not turn to glucose, correct? if you have 3 meals of 20gs of protein, but then have 1 protein shake with 30 grams, later on after your meals, it would digest separately from your other meals and therefore not turn to glucose.
