Items like the spinner run into the problem of “it has a function, but it’s only useful with arbitrarily placed terrain.” Basically the “you get to use it when we say it’s useful” syndrome. Not the fault of the item per se, but likely a result of an idea being implanted either late in development or in a vacuum.

This is true also of the dominion rod and I agree that the spinner should be more useful overall. Honestly, having an item be arbitrarily important isn't a bad thing (albeit, it wouldn't be consistent with BotW's philosophy). Just look at older Zelda dungeons. They were able to use these arbitrarily important item and make interesting and unique dungeons, which imo are better than BotW's dungeons. I really think it would just boil down to how they could implement a feature so that it's not only useful in it's respective dungeon.

Rubber armour still has its uses. It’s best used when fighting Thunderblite Ganon, or getting to Zora’s domain (Shock arrows will only deal 1/4 of a heart) It’s not that hard to obtain either. The quests for it are; Thunderous Plataue: Big stormy plataue in the ridgelands region. Statis launch two orbs to the centeral area, then knock the third down with an arrow before putting them in place. Find chest with chest plate under starting position of shrine. Thunder magnet: Get ontop of the Faron stable and remove an axe. Talk to lady, get given rubber helm. A Song of storms: Climb up to the big rock above the waterfalls using trees, Zora armour or revali’s gale. Have it be struck by lightning. In shrine is rubber leg armour. None are that hard. After you just need 30 electric ChuChu Jelly and 15 volt fruit to upgrade it to level 2 to become immune to electricity. It’s also nice to have it as an alternative to the Thunder Helm. You don’t end up taking a priceless heirloom from the goroudo chief who is still trying to get to grips with the whole ‘being a leader’ thing. Least Riju’s apperance In Hyrule Warriors implies that she gets it back from Link. On the other hand... Nintendo compleatly forgot about the level 2 flame breaker armour’s ability. There’s this shrine called block the blaze in the champions Ballard... and you can just walk straight to the monk wearing the armour. Only have to move one single block to make a bridge over lava.

Gibdos could do that in OoT and MM as well. Also their Japanese name makes it clear they're supposed to be Gibdos, so uh

The spinner reminds me of shield surfing in botw, you ride both of them like a skateboard and you can do a spinny thing with the shield. I'd love to be able to ride a giant beyblade and grind the enemys but I have no idea how it can have a wider range of use unless there's some type of mechanic to give it momentum on flat terrains.

Side note: at the very least in the remake for switch (don’t recall about the GB original or the GBA version) the Mirror shield in Links Awakening DOES reflect some enemy projectiles, but not all of them. Something I wish it did in more games tbh.

small interesting fact, the spinner can actually be used in a few other places in TP. Hidden throughout the map are areas containing heart pieces or rupees and the only way to access them is by using the spinner. I cant remember the location of each place, but I know they're in the general vicinity of hyrule field.

There's a ton of fan-content where Wolf Link acts as a guide to BotW Link, sort of like how the Hero's Shade aided you in Twilight Princess. The past reincarnations of the Hero acting as mentors for the next one is such a nice idea.

The Golden Gauntlets in OOT. I think they're only use in game is throw 2 giant obelisks of stone. After that? They serve no function. COULD have been a pretty cool damage buff, akin to the Biggoron sword, or some other bonus.

Something else that’s a missed opportunity with Wolf Link in BotW is that if it was canonically TP Link transported through time, then he could somehow be used as a move tutor or the like similar to how OoT/MM Link tutored him as the Hero’s Shade. Having Links from different eras meeting and interacting is an interesting idea (there’s a great fan comic called ‘Linked Universe’ which explores this with a bunch of Links teaming up and travelling together; iirc there was one comic where BotW Link is suffering from PTSD nightmares and TP Link transforms into wolf mode to comfort him and it’s implied in the comic’s continuity he actually did travel with BoTW Link for a time in wolf mode during the former’s adventure).

I kind of like how with the Giant's mask in the 3DS version you don't just simply swing your sword like you always do when you're normal size; you actually become more like a wrestler who actually punches the living daylights out of the boss. tricky but satisfying when you pull it off

Glad you mentioned the spinner from TP, I loved the item when I got to use it and my friend who I often discuss what of the LoZ franchise had the best aspects, I always mention how I felt that was a missed opportunity. I'm also a fan of the cane of somaria, I used it more than I probably should've, shame it was hardly carried on in future games.

Wolf link will lead you to treasure chests and shrines. You just have to watch for when he barks sniffs the ground and then he starts off in the direction of the shrine/chest. However if you are moving it is easy to miss the ques wolf link gives.

Seeing the 3DS version of Majora's Mask Twinmold fight reminds me of this one episode of the Gospel Bill Show in which this outlaw is coming to town and was a wrestler who's signature move is the called the Crusher Grip (Crusher Crane is the outlaw's name btw), squeezes your head until your eyes pop out, lol.

It would be cool to have the spinner work more like how painting link could transverse a cliff. If the spinner didn't need tracks, but could be used on any wall or mountain. That would be an amazing way link could move in a 3d environment. Especially in a game like botw with a lot of climbing, the spinner could help you move around the world in a different way.

I liked the Spinner and the Dominion Rod too. At least they got better use in Hyrule Warriors. For Wolf Link, in BotW, I think I read somewhere that companions were supposed to be a bigger thing, but when it was decided to bring the game to Switch, that idea got scaled down, and Wolf Link was what was left.

Actually, if you get the mirror shield before the 8th dungeon in Oracle of Seasons, the beams that the Medusa Head uses to turn Link to stone can be used to turn the boss to stone instead. It’s a pretty neat and even less useful tool than it is in Minish Cap to me

I'd love to see the Cane of Somoria. It could conjure up blocks or boulder like objects that could be used to hold down switches and it could shatter and be used as a powerful weapon or means to trigger many switches at once.

If they called the spinner "Link's custom $9000 beyblade" you can bet his harem would be canon and the game would end not with plunging the Master Sword into Ganon's chest, but with Ganon collapsing due to his realization of how lame he is compared to Link doing a kick-flip on his Custom $9000 Beyblade *truly, the spinner is the envy of all in Hyrule*

as far as wolf link is concerned i think i would have liked to see it handled more like epona, that is to say, there are plenty of horses, but epona is unique to the amino, they could have done the same with wolf link, you can find and befriend dogs, but wolf link has a unique skin and maybe better than average stats

Wolf Link actually does help you find items. If you set the Sheikah slate to locate an item, Wolf Link will point you in the direction of that item much more precisely than the more inaccurate "dousing" of the slate's beeping.

re: wolf link in botw, i get the feeling that there was the glimmer of an idea to have pets that could follow link and help out, but it was scrapped for some reason, and wolf link is just a vestige of that. When you have the quest to feed the dog and then follow him to where he digs up some treasure, i was really bummed that it ended at that, and would have liked to tame some wolves or something.

Wolf link will actually sniff out whatever is registered on your sheikah censor when one of the items is close (Exp: if you have an endura mushroom registered, WL will automatically seek out the nearest one when you’re close enough to one)
