@@B_baldy There are really only 3 films that are ever in the discussion for 'best of all time' and that's Vertigo, The Godfather (even though Apocalypse Now is better) and Citizen Kane. Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak both put out all time great performances. Jimmy Stewart's character fakes out the audience, because at the start he's the classic lovable Jimmy Stewart that the audience knows and loves, but that quickly unravels and he become this obsessed unhinged character. It feels much more in line with the late 60s developments than the 50s, it ventures into Psychadelia, it has a pretty strange structure and amazing visuals. North by Northwest plays it straight. Vertigo has a much better script. The film leaves some loose ends, but it doesn't matter. The whole point is that it starts as a detective mystery, very 50s movie and ends in a much more new wave character study type of film.

I have a lot of favourites, though I probably have to give it to Pulp Fiction. It's just very well-written, the non-linear plot is used very well, it's extremely quotable and SLJ and John Travolta did a fantastic job as the leads. Another favourite of mine is Snowpiercer (It's not that Parasite is a bad movie, just personal preference). If you can do dystopian right, you have a winner, and it is done incredibly well, with solid world-building, great acting and rules it sticks to. The only criticism I have is that I would have liked to see more of the train, but I think it's just the same as what we saw with the hallway scene (when Chris Evans is being shot at). Regarding older films, Rear Window takes the cake for me. I like James Stewart as an actor, even though he is very typecast, and I LOVE the plot, with twists and turns in all the right places, and it creates a lot of suspense out of very little in terms of setting, which is very impressive.

For me I love taxi driver has its story told through Travis’s hair Let me explain In the beginning when his hair is messy he is at his lowest point when he fantasizes about being the perfect man When he cuts his hair and gets guns he tries to act out his fancy’s about being a hero by killing a robber and attempting to talk Iris about getting out of prostitution But when he has his hair is like a Mohawk he completely snaps and attempts to and successfully kill people that he doesn’t like have upset him and as he views ruins the city By the end he is back to stage one with messy hair and is still at his lowest point, he has the same job and viewed as a hero but not even his co workers really congratulate him they just ask where he is at in the recovery process Edit: taxi driver or the departed are my favorite movies from Martin Scorsese and I don’t know which one is better

Have you ever seen Timeline? A great movie that encapsulates the early 2000’s. Even has the subtle grainy/dirty film overlay that older movies have with good cgi for its time. Overall a good movie

I disagree with Mary Sues being more prevalent than Gary Sues. How many 80’s movie characters are there that star someone like Arnold or Dolph or Sly where they’re just flawless and they never make mistakes and are just perfect at everything. And I would argue that today they still are pretty prevalent.
@bodybuild5975
3 жыл бұрын
I think the reason is that Arnold, Dolph, Sly, were not used to push a political agenda, it just felt natural and wasn’t punishing the viewers. When we watch entertainment we don’t want to be constantly reminded of these political topics within America.

@@bodybuild5975 so you can’t have a Mary Sue without it being political? I’m confused
@bodybuild5975

@@NewStorkProductions No, I am saying that most of the time Mary Sues are used to push an agenda, and because of that the story and the character just seems forced and unnatural. You could apply the same to Gary Sues, however it felt more natural because these Gary Sues were more like antagonists at the beginning of the series, for example, Arnie.
@tylermacgregor1320

@@bodybuild5975 Mary Sues/Gary Stus are typically just self inserts. Forced and unnatural for sure, but in most cases political agendas have little if anything to do with it.
@bodybuild5975

@@tylermacgregor1320 I agree with you, Gary Sues and Mary Sues are both unnatural and ruins the story. However, in our current political climate, Gary Sues and/or Mary Sues are mainly used as a political opinion, like to push a toxic feminists ideology or a toxic misogynistic message. Happy New Years!
