The cry for sexual liberation prompted huge controversy in the 60s. The changed behavior of young people, especially young women, divided the generations. In Hollywood, the 60s began, not with wild parties but with the near-bankruptcy of the studio system. The TV lured millions away from the movie palaces and led to thousands of lost jobs at the major studios. The crisis of the studios and the dawning realization that society was changing eventually led to the end of the Production Code, which had stipulated for decades what was and wasn't permissible on the silver screen.
