I agree with you 100%. There is something about those practical effects that makes the creature extremely disturbing. The "remake/reboot" they did decades later paled in comparison. The sad thing is, it didn't have to. The more recent film was originally shot using practical effects that were later replaced with terrible, plastic looking CGI. And it made no sense doing this. I watched a making of video and the practical effects looked so much better. Far more creepy and disturbing looking. They replaced it all with CGI that didn't even change the look of design of any of the shots. It was like a one for one replacement for the practical effects. Except the CGI looked terrible and fake, while the practical version of the same effect shot looked much more real and frightening. I'd love to see a "Director's Cut", of some sort that removes the CGI that is, quite literally, just covering over the practical effects. That's all they did was overlay the CGI on top of the practical effect shots. Such a shame.

The Thing's real brilliance after its practical effects is the sanity-straining paranoia, as one by one the cast gradually fall to the creature, leaving the audience to ponder the movie's ending. Without a doubt though, the line of the movie has to be when they see the spider-head version of the thing and Palmer says what the audience is thinking, "YOU GOTTA BE FUCKING KIDDING".

I was born and raised in Massachusetts, I went to the place where they filmed Jaws. You can walk out a very long distance from the shore and the water in about waist high. In the deepest places. They had a lot of problems making it. Parts of it were filmed in a swimming pool. You can hear the gears of the mechanical shark. It was a great movie even though it took longer to film it. I went to Provincetown. My girlfriends uncle had a friend who owned this cool house.it had three stories and a patio roof. It was build-weird though. It had a hole in the middle so you could be on the third floor and there’s a hole you can look down and see the first floor. I wanted to stay on the third floor but they wouldn’t let me because the beds head board was against the hole. So if I woke up to pee and I’m half asleep I could fall down-to the first floor and splat on the kitchen floor. I know this has nothing to. Do with the movies but I was just thinking about it when the showed Jaws.

As much as I enjoy your narration of the plots for most of the movies you have listed. I just wanted to mention that some of your pronunciations for much of the characters/monsters and such are a little off. If you watch any of the movies you have listed, you'd know that Mogwai is pronounced "Mog-Why" and one thing I absolutely have to mention too is in "The Relic" it's definitely not a hyopothalmi, it's pronounced Hypo-thal-a-mus.. Just giving you some feedback for any future projects. I grew up watching a lot of the movies you have listed and I am probably the worlds worst for nitpicking on how things are pronounced. That being said, i'm surprised no one else hasn't mentioned this before now.

You are not the only one and it is not nitpicking to ask people to pronounce words correctly, especially relatively common ones that are historical like “Soviet”. It’s a long ‘O’not a short ‘O’. Glad to see The Void on here. Another gem is Baskin - definitely recommend it. While it's not a creature feature and would be considered sci-fi by just, Coherence is another fun movie that i feel ultimately could be called Lovecraftian Horror.

I need most of those 80’s movies remade with the same script and better effects of today.

The 'regeneration' of Jeepers Creepers has made it a scare for me for so long lol but I haven't seen any after that, cause I've heard that he's 'hard to kill' to say the least. Descent or Descend? The cave one, is also a favorite of mine, but not that l like the movie, but the concept of those monsters being alive in a cave somewhere lol 🤷 I find myself getting more afraid of realistic type of monsters than the supernatural or out of this world, literally or figuratively, as I've gotten older. I used to be terrified of zombies but now find some of them comical. Love werewolves and vampires. And love lovecraftian type of stories too. Any type of bio-whatevers, also find cool, like 28 days later. Psychological horrors can sometimes be good, or leave me confused about the story line lol I recently saw that movie about 'Z'? That was pretty 'good'.

The only thing I didn't like about Relic is they didn't have Special Agent Pendergast in it, he's the main character in Relic, and it's equal reliquary among many other books by Preston, and Child
