Regarding proportions. Many people overthink this. You can get this done, and be a "guy with longer legs." Look around people come in all shapes and sizes and proportions. So it's all good. Lack of height is what bothers us, and the whole reason we do it. So just get it done, and own whatever happens after!!

About the money/price issue. Keep in mind you will get a return on investment over the long term. 1) Higher salary for taller employees. Studies show that 1 inch of height equates to about $800 yearly salary. So if you gain an average 2.5 inches, that is $2000 more a year, or $20,000 a decade. 2) Being taller may open doors to new jobs that pay higher salaries. 3) Height is an investment that can’t be robbed, stolen, or sued.

Thanks I appreciate that! It's funny you ask that, as currently I have a few CLL patients in a Beta-program that I'm working on to help them regain flexibility, active ROM, walk normally, get back to activity and of course regain strength and muscle. Now if they follow-through is the question lol. Reason why I'm doing this is because 90% of people who undergo LL surgery of any type slack off on PT even if they say they're working hard, it's not usually efficient enough and they'll be left with long term pain and tightness and not get back to form. So I want to fill that gap after surgery and PT so they can get back
@minchalop

@@Cyborg4Life thats interesting, the reason I know its possible is purely from seeing your level of fitness after surgery. Would it be beneficial at all to stretch muscles for a few months before surgery or that doesn't matter? I can barely touch my toes due to never stretching my muscles out. Also, if someone were to stop all physical activity and stretching say 5 or 10 years down the line, would they then slowly start to get stiffer and tigher muscles again? thanks for always taking the time to respond to everyone btw
@Cyborg4Life
4 жыл бұрын
@@minchalop This is a great question as I wonder about it too! When it comes to getting tight from the surgery long term there are so many factors that play into it. It’s like if I stopped training my legs, I probably wouldn’t get tight. But then the question comes up of if I stopped stretching after training legs would I get tight? This double conundrum can be answered by the following… (but first to answer your question.) 1. Stretching before surgery can definitely help with the muscle excursion “capacity.” This refers to the ability your muscle has to lengthen over the ROM of a joint or multi-joint. In simple terms, it’s sort of like how much “slack” you have in your muscles; an analogy being like if you ate a lot of food for a few months you would stretch your stomach out and increase its “capacity” to store more food. Then if you stopped eating for a few weeks, and had a run to the buffet, you would feel full but would still be able to put the food down unlike a person who never ate that much and just went for it. So, by starting a stretching routine a few months before surgery, you increase the “capacity & slack” of your muscles, improve the fascia and muscle fiber alignment and improve your habits for rehab. This means, once surgery happens you won’t be stretching as much until about week 3-4 (after swelling decreases more) and when you approach your max length/height, you’ll find that it will be much easier to regain your ROM and flexibility vs. a patient who didn’t stretch pre-op. 2. Now, let’s discuss scenario if you are healed up, walking perfect, feeling tall etc. Okay cool, assuming you regained your ROM and MAINTAINED it for at least 1 year till device removal, you technically don’t need to stretch again and should be fine with normal every day activities but if you went for a strong hike or a fast run or heavy lift you will feel tight. 3. This brings us to scenario number 3, which is if you are an avid athlete or like to work out. This is what I find. If I don’t stretch after calves, my LL will get tight after about 2 weeks of not stretching. How do I know…I did it. So, I continue to stretch. Now, you won’t lose ROM but you probably will get tight if you train really heavy. But, like any person who lifts weights stretching should always follow so that shouldn’t be a worry. To summarize, if you are a moderate weight lifter after LL, then after year 1 you technically won’t NEED to stretch even though recommended. But if you don’t stretch frequently and you are a serious trainer or bodybuilder like your cyborg truly lol, then yeah you’ll get a bit tighter than a normal person who didn’t undergo LL would. I think it’s the price we pay for altering nature. I don’t know just my thoughts

You're doing great work Victor. However you recommend to learn about everything that could go wrong, which was the purpose of your video. When you mention several complications, you go too quickly over embolism (which can be serious). Also you skipped one important risk which is DVT (deep vein trombosis), which if not treated turns to embolism. It's important to mention. People need to be aware, take diligently their blood thinners and do their therapy to avoid it.

I understand your worries but I've spoken to several world class LL surgeons who are literally light years ahead of your typical orthopedic surgeon and they all say that, yes, complications exist, but the chances of a DVT IF patient takes their blood thinners and moves as prescribed is extremely low. Every orthopedic procedure has risks but it is in fact a low chance of it happening but every patient who takes on this procedure is undertaking risk as they know when the surgeon consults with them. Although I have been to med school I am not a surgeon, and all patients have the responsibility to consult with their doctors before going through with it. In a future interview coming soon I will interview a patient who had true complications that were extremely rare! And CLL is so much more rare than her true medical issue. So, please don't get it confused I am simply talking about the procedure as it is. All surgeons claim a very low to no complication rate as CLL is a controlled procedure unlike getting hit by a car like yours truly and laying on the ground until ambulance arrives. I appreciate your concern

Victor, in regards to the proportions point made in the video, I'd be curious to see, hear, etc, someone who did the more "controversial," over the max limits that Stryde puts on their nails. Although it is more rare, I've read diaries and accounts of some European doctors, (obviously not using Fitbone, Precise, or Stryde), that have had pt success with up to 8cm on tibias and 10-11 cm on femurs. For most, I agree this is I'll advised. However, when I see pts of some docs that are using the Stryde nails safely achieve say 8cm in a pt's femur, that ws 5'3", if a different pt was initially 5'10", one would assume health, conditioning, flexibility, bone ratios, etc, being somewhat similar, that a 10cm femur CLL could be safe. For me personally, I always wanted a good amount of extra height. I'm 5'10.5", but have never been happy with it. My anthropometrics are definitely different than most of my height, very long torso, (that of an average proportioned person 5- 6 inches taller than me), and shorter limbs, (that of an average proportioned person 5-6 inches shorter than me). I was always curious to hear of people in possibly similar situations..average height that did the Euro route and went more, (even if it was .5cm ea), than what Stryde offers, and their experiences. Also, kind of random, but have you ever come across any websites, software, etc. that does a decent job of mock up heights? Another issue I've been pondering, (hence my knowledge on clavicular lengthening), is that I unfortunately have narrow clavicles, and was always curious how that would look at certain heights. In my younger days I was big into fitness and strength and conditioning, so I have more of a critical eye in regards to proportions, body shape(s), etc. Thanks man, appreciate the time and the continued content!
@Cyborg4Life

You know this brings up interesting discussion. I personally know that my doctor said in her interview that a patient who is taller can lengthen more (or at least have an easier time) than a shorter person due to the percentage of their length of bone. This may work in your case also but again it is based on limb length not necessarily height in general, from vertebral column. I have seen a somewhat decent software that would mock up the person but it wasn’t super accurate. I can’t remember what it’s called at the moment. But considering clavicular lengthening, I don’t really think it’s super ideal because of all the nerves that cross by that clavicle. You have the brachial plexus that could be affected if not done by a good surgeon. I think if you gained 3 inches in height then your width would probably look similar but then if 5 inches was aimed for then it could make you look narrower up and down with less of an ideal v-taper. I would think it also depends on arm length. You mentioned a shorter arm length so that could highlight the proportion difference if more than 3 inches was increased in height. You’re right a mock-up software would really be ideal for helping to think about this but from you having a trained eye as well as me, I think it goes without saying that more length gained without being very wide could be an issue. Thanks man I really appreciate the support. This gives me some ideas for a future proportion video!
@ggram0551

Glad I could contribute in some way, and thank you for the detailed response. I'll keep looking for a software mock up program or website, as although I'm not close to being ready to take the plunge, because of how many life altering factors that are involved, and the possibility of me going with a different nail/for femurs and technnique/with tibias, I'd like to have a ballpark idea of cementing my goals, (although if my body responds with "no," then I'll definitely listen). I have measured the bone length of my femurs, humerus, and tibias, and by what your doctor had mentioned in your interview with her, and other doctors have said, (although some have an arbitrary number regardless of the pt's anthropometry), if I keep at 20% or under of original bone length, (on paper), I could do more than what Stryde offers, (which I understand the rationale of why Stryde sets the max limits of the nail at where they are, but I feel with what my current bone lengths are, I would be somewhat on the outlier side). I second guess myself many times, and flip flop my decisions, in regards to the amount of length, (if all becomes ideal), that I would like to achieve. To me, my physique (genetically speaking), is way off, (obviously I put emphasis upon accentuating and downplaying body parts via training). However, to your average person, when I'm leaned out, it's very good. My limbs, (a bit more pronounced with femurs and humerus), are short, but due to having good muscle bellies, (more so emphasized in those areas), as well as a larger rib cage, (which helps add depth and volume to my chest and back), and when I'm leaned out...an abdominal region that is dense..from years of gymnastics training... with good seperation visible, forming a 8 pack...to go with a longer spine/torso...it is aesthetic looking to your average person. With all that being said, I guess I just really need to find a good program to get a mock up. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Dr. Betz uses one, but I believe it's his own program. I would think other docs would use something similar. I'll just keep plugging away to see if I can find one and/or cold email some docs to see if there is anything that they use that would be the convienant for me, (ie; without travel and an evaluation appointment with a doc, not just yet anyway).

The pain mgmt only worked for so long until it no longer starts to work. During this time I loss a lot of muscle mass in my quads eventually the leg looked like a noodle. There was a challenge going to the bathroom. I could never without pain sit. I can't imagine having both legs broken and extended. I am guessing someone is going to help you go to the bathroom for a long time. The next challenge is rebuilding muscle mass. :-( . I'd like just 2-4 more inches, but its not worth it. Eventually we get old and die. That blonde that wants a taller guy can go and nimble on someone else. ;-)

Hey Victor! I wonder what are ur thoughts about heavy training after this surgery (specially legs), like how long it took you to be squatting again? I'm really worried about training legs after surgery and since i normally lose weight and muscle very fast when not training i'm scared to end up looking like slender man or something. I'm thinking about both tibia and femeurs lengthening but i dont want to exchange muscles for height tho. Btw the only explanation for ur channel not to be viral yet is how niche this subject is cuz the quality is amazing 👍

Hey that's a great question and one I think a lot of people need to hear. So, after I had tibial lengthening done via precice nail, I had some tender and sore knees (they reamed and went in through patellar tendon) from surgery. I went through the paces and let everything heal until about 4 months when I was allowed to walk (granted nail wasn't weight bearing). And so, I gradually did stationary bike to increase blood flow and knee stability until I was strong enough to do partial squats - which hurt a bit. Then I continued with PT and ASTYM (to help align the tendon fibers as they healed) until I could do parallel squats, again body weight. Then it was eventually full ROM squats for very high reps to rebuild muscle tone, get used to new length and condition tissues. Then about 6 months in, I was able to add light weight (goblet squats, free bar squats) and do high reps but muscle memory took over and about 8 months in, I was piling on weight as I felt better each week. Of course I was using knee sleeves to increase warmth and stability support. At the 10 month to 1 year mark I was about 75% back in strength (which for me was a huge win). THEN...Device removal! This PISSED ME OFF!! Here I was, having rehabbed all year only to go through a 30min op back through tendon...AGAIN!! 😭 Lol. And so, from there I said, "okay Victor, you got this far, let's finish." And so, I rehabbed again, although no ASTYM this time, I still followed my rehab program I created the year before and got back within 1 month. By month 3-4 I was back to that 75% mark. Then by month 6-8 I was at 85/90% strength-wise and definitely rep wise as my conditioning and muscular endurance was through the roof. By 1 to 2 years Post-Device Removal so 3 years original LL surgery, I arrived at very close to 100% in fact, perhaps being in my prime at the time was able to train harder than previously and hit numbers that I never did before. So sorry for the long post, but this was my biggest fear when undergoing the procedure and it hits home. And so, yes, you can get it all back but it will take time. A lot of it and let's say even if you lose muscle, it can come back. Strength too but finding ways to adapt to your "new normal" as I call it is most important. I also really appreciate your support of the channel. Originally I said I'd just put a few videos together as a resource for people to know a bit more about it. Then it started to grow and here we are. I'll keep going to see where we can go! Thanks! 🙏

I did read about TRT increasing not only muscle mass but also bone mass. Apart from that it should also lessen loss of muscle due to inactivity. What are your thoughts on this. Also I read about TB500 and BPC 157 that should speed up recovery dramatically. Any Ideas if someone should incorporate that to a surgery?

I just think it's not as necessary as people think. I mean unless you have very short arms to start with it won't be necessary. The surgeon room for error is far less in my opinion but it can be done safely with experienced surgeons yes so it's fine for those handful

This is an awesome point! Very interesting. Now I agree with you but perhaps the study was referring to temporary complications, but I think for permanent long term complications that are irreversible without massive surgical intervention the rate is far lower but could be wrong: Things I'm referring to are huge equinus contractures that will require Achilles tendon gastro-soleus recession followed by aggressive PT to maybe get back to normal. Fatty embolism syndrome (FES) that will kill you if patient isn't mobilized within few hours after surgery and each day after. Nerve compressions that could cause drop foot due to peroneal nerve compressed. Or infections if wounds for external fixator aren't kept clean or caught early enough. Heck even I would've had a tibialis anterior compartment syndrome if I didn't get a partial fasciotomy by my surgeon. Device malfunction is always a possibility. And long term complication like floating fibula that could cause arthritis. I mean the list goes on... But yeah I had some temporary nerve pain in my sciatic nerve, peroneal, tightness of my calf etc. So I think you're right for temporary problems. Or were you referring to long term like 3-5 years post-op? Hopefully not lol

There was a documentary on lengthening surgery and it spoke about a man with “ballerina syndrome” Apparently he had the surgery done in India and it was botched, requiring him to only walk on the front flat part of his foot. It didn’t go in further to explain and Google was no help with this. So this makes me wonder when you say “tightening” is this the downside or effect of a surgery for lengthening going wrong? Are the calf muscles so tight where the patient can’t walk on his feet flat as normal? Or is there an actual thing called ballerina syndrome and it’s something different completely? The documentary didn’t explain but I’m wondering if this is what can happen when a surgery goes wrong and why
@Cyborg4Life
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah so "ballerina foot" is a complication relating to a ankle muscle contracture when a patient's foot gets pushed into a permanent plantar flexion position. Usually this is due to lengthening beyond recommended limits for that given patient however it can also occur with patients who slack on physiotherapy. The surgeon can advise but it's up to the patient to use wisdom and listen.

Yeah I mean I know there are good LL doctors everywhere in the world and there are also ones who aren't as experienced. My advice is to ensure you look at their patient results, review the clinic, surgical technique and other important factors

I know that Dr. Giotikas is in Greece. There's also Ian Bacarese Hamilton in London , Dr. Peter Thaller in Germany and even more. So there are more LL surgeons starting to do this surgery

Because it's almost always unnecessary

I do fitness since 10 years. Is that a advantage to lengthening? The fact that my muscles and others soft tissues were worked while long years?

You should be fine since you've been doing for long time but maintain and don't go excessive if you're planning for surgery anytime soon

My concern is I notice that many surgeons in Germany or USA only lengthen one portion the leg such as the upper portion. Wouldn’t it be better to lengthen the upper and lower leg? I would think it would be best for biomechanics, symmetry and resuming heavy workouts. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thank you .

In a perfect world yeah but time to achieve full recovery can be the X factor. But if you have the money, time and would be willing to do what it takes then better biomechanics is by doing both
