I've ditched raspberries almost completely. Only Octoprint and few specialized uses. Imo it's much more sensible to buy old business grade 1L PC and run those Pi-holes etc. all on one single system with Proxmox. Backups are made in minutes and snapshots allow reverting changes in less than minute if one bothes up the system. More efficient and even less power consumption when compined.

There are pros & cons to your approach (as in everything in life). Just for information you can run a lot of things on one Raspberry Pi as well. Backup is also not a problem and replacement is super easy and cheap if something eventually happens with the device (which is extremely rare). What is your power consumption btw?

@@KPeyanski About 15W on 24h average. Running OMV, Pihole, CasaOS, HomeAssistant, Windows 10 VM, Docker testing VM, Jellyfin, SyncThing and few other containers/VM's from time to time. I honestly don't see a single con in that setup. Only pros. Hell I wish I did the change years ago. Like backups from selected VM's on selected times to PBS, mentioned snapshots if wanting to see some quick change and effect. Migration to another Proxmox server takes in all those services about 1h etc. Just simply not a single con. There's no way to run those all on raspberry. Not even remotely close. I do know. I used to ran OMV with few docker services for about year 24/7. Only uses for me are that Octoprint and PiVPN as I can kill its power remotely if I get the feel. Otherwise I would ran VPN too on Proxmox.

Peyanski, wolfgang has showm in a video that his powerful intel based homeserver idles at 7watts. Instead of wasting Money on pi, its better to use intel machines. My setup has 3 server configurations, 2 are intel and one is amd. Intel is quad core and idle consumption is 5&11 watts. Amd is 6core with 64gb ram, idle power is 28watts 🎉

power consumption is not the only factor here although it is still lower than the ones you stated at around 2.7watts. With Pis you also get the smaller form factor, silent operation, better price and reliability and replaceability and more. Also I'm not saying anywhere that having a big desktop/server is bad idea and you should only choose raspberry pi no matter what. These are different tools for different use cases and I'm personally have them both and I'm using them happily.

@@KPeyanski Home Assistant, Pihole. Where can I find instructions how to install more of this 7 projects on Home Assistant? Can it works well together on Pi5 8gb (Home Assistant, PiHole, PiVPN and Plex fro example)
