How to make an emergency chiller • get a large tub and at least 6m of tubing. • attach one end of the tube to your return pump and the other end to the tank. • coil the excess tube into the tub. • fill the tub with ice The water from the sump is circulated as normal with the tub of ice cooling it down considerably as it journeys through the tube. There is no risk of dilution as with floating ice/ice in containers directly in the tank. We had a massive heat wave several years ago and my chiller failed! (Australia). So i used the fan/surface agitation and also.temporary chiller ice tub idea. I also insulated my tanks with polystyrene sheets to keep the heat out. Didn't lose one thing!

I also have had the heaters turned off for around three weeks now, believe it or not even with them off the temperature has held at around 27c I prefer 25c but can’t knock off those 2 degrees. Done everything you’ve mentioned and all have helped, great video, accurate and concise. Thanks.

Haven't commented in a while, hope you remember me But I might be getting my first saltwater tank! This was a huge concern to me because I live in Southern California. It gets up to 90-100 degrees here like everyday. So I'll see the temp as it cycles

Stale Meme , I live in Australia, the temp through summer got up to 47 deg C and an average of 35. As long as the water in the tank doesn't get much higher than 27-28degC for more than a week you should be right, my tank actually got to 30deg C last summer and bleached all of my coraline algae. If you're temps stay around 35 all year that sounds perfect cause you wouldn't have to run a heater.

Chillers are a minimum of like $600 so that is why most people don't have them for a couple month out of the year. Evaporative cooling is much cheaper

We just couldn’t find a permanent solution... some of us live in asia and do not have airconditioning but we can tolerate temperatures at 33 or 34c, but for our aquariums, lowering it to 24 to 25c is so impossible if we will not use a chiller which is very expensive here in Asia. Aquarium waters here sometimes reach 35c and it’s not even summer!

I fill my bottles with tank water and haven't had any problems. Have lots of fans if you don't have a ceiling fan. My chiller heats up the room so you'll have to run hoses in from outside the house. Turn off anything inessential like skimmers because the motors create heat. Open tops and point your power heads up to create maximum surface agitation.

Was wondering what adverse affects you’ve noticed with your tank? I’m in the UK and my tanks been running at 27.5 and I’ve had some rtn and stn and lost around 3 sps. All my parameters are fine as ever so can only put it down to the 1.5 degree rise in the tank over the last few weeks. This may be something to note that causes rtn and stn. I’m no expert but ive always looked after my tank. Thanks
