100% agree with letting your car warm up. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I see people turn on their car and instantly throw it into gear and drive away. didnt even let the rpms drop from the initial start up. or even worse when you see someone going in reverse and they slam it into drive while their still moving backwards. WTF. (sorry, mini Rant)
@AnthonyJ350
7 жыл бұрын
nyinfamous2k2 And doesn't have to be for long. Just enough to let the oil circulate. I generally wait 30 seconds to a minute in the summer. Winter I remote start and wait 5 to 8 minutes then drive it nicely.
@Ahw1231
7 жыл бұрын
A mechanic told me that I shouldn't have to wait more than 10 seconds in the summer or winter with modern combustion engines. He said waiting for the engine to warm up is a thing of the past now that you don't need to wait for a carburetor to warm up to inject proper fuel to air ratios. (Something to do with new electronic fuel injection that automatically changes fuel ratios based on the temperature.) I also just checked online and found and article that states the same. In fact this article claims that letting modern engines idle is actually worse for the engine that just taking off immediately.
@AnthonyJ350

Ahw1231 Ya but if you don't let that oil warm up a little, it's like taking razor blades to the inside of your motor. It's more about letting that oil get to crucial parts after initial start up.

another good mod to do is vent visors. some people don't like the look and etc. but I love them and have them on all my cars. they let you crack the window when it's raining and in the summer you can crack the window to let all the hot air escape. enough to let air pass through but not enough someone can reach their hand in. plus I like the look, some cars you can get clear, smoke, chrome etc.

EBC drilled and slotted are very nice. I took my truck offroading and filled everything with mud including the drum and disc breaks. The drilled holes and slots on the rotor filled with mud and I had to wire brush the mud out. The sand from the mud also scratched up my rotors and chewed on the pads a bit. They are slowley coming back to normal. I would recommend EBC to anyone wanting to upgrade.
@AnthonyJ350

I like either drilled or slotted. I just find when both are done it takes away a lot of surface area for the pads to grab on to.
@scottlambeth5478
7 жыл бұрын
When it comes to your brakes don't go drilled. I made that mistake and found out the hard way the holes are magnets for cracks. When I finally replaced the rotors every drilled hole had hairline cracks all around them and a couple had evolved into major cracks. As for the slots to vent the gases, that's not necessary when you're using ceramic pads. Ceramic pads are supposed to be zero dust and zero gas so venting the gas that causes counter pressure isn't necessary.

Anthony J350 1. Anything other than blanks for rotors is pointless, even when racing. Modern brake pads don't produce gasses that need slotted rotos to vent. Rotors drilled after forging are prone to cracking, rotors forged with holes are less prone. I have found that Power Stop rotors are mediocre at best. 2. Stock style filters are paper, not cotton. 3. Removing air baffles makes no difference in fuel economy or horsepower. 4. High quality batteries are a must regarding the climate, but optima or Northstar are not a must. 5. On modern vehicles idling for warmup is a bad for your engine. It causes cd more wear and tear than is necessary.

Just showing products I've had good experiences with. The things I've suggest we've either logged around 100,00KM or have used the product for years in other vehicles with no failure. Curious. You speak of doing things to your truck that make you love what you daily drive. Basically what this is about. I noticed its 2WD. Do you regret that?
@AnthonyJ350
7 жыл бұрын
No because I come from a RWD car background so the payload capacity, ground clearance and overall capability was an upgrade when it came to practicality. I was young when I bought the truck so the reduced maintenance was easier on my wallet. There are times I wish I had 4WD but I don't find myself in those situations very often and the truck has always served me well (I have a locker in the rear and run studded winter tires so it's decent in the snow). I've owned the truck for 9 years going on 10 and it runs great. Eventually when I get another truck I will get a 4WD model and probably a quad cab. Definitely want one with a 6 and half foot bed, that is a must. The 5.5 long ones are too short.

Tanatose If your vehicle is auto (90% of new vehicles sold) you would leave it in park. Lots of guys with manuals run turbo timers and have to leave it in neutral. Just don't do it on hills.

If your vehicle is automatic you can leave it in park. If your vehicle is a manual they make remote starter that by pass your clutch and gear box so it will start. I have a 2017 WRX manual and they put a remote starter in it and I can leave it in gear

8:37 please explain to me how you won't be shooting the oil anywhere... I understand viscosity and viscosity index but unless your oil is as viscous as a candle it's going to flow though the oil pickup line and be sent through the system. Your videos are good but don't make a lot of sense when you through out technical details.
@AnthonyJ350
7 жыл бұрын
Kevin Besser It does but I don't think it will pump oil as much compared to cruising with the rpms a little higher. There are also several articles that discuss excessive idling also causing more wear as opposed to driving the vehicle nicely when first turned on greenactioncentre.ca/healthy-travel/myth-2-its-better-to-idle-your-car-than-shut-it-off/
@kevinbesser8260
7 жыл бұрын
The oil pump is a positive displacement pump, which flow and pressure increases with rpm it doesn't take long for everything to be coated with oil if the right viscosity is used
@kevinbesser8260
7 жыл бұрын
My original question is how are you "shooting oil anywhere" this indicates that there is 0 flow of oil based on your statement. I understand everything very well but I just can't stand the way you put things. I've had multiple college classes on engine theory, overhauled serveral engines, and am well informed on how these pups work.

Montana White OK so you're just assuming. Because LED's are a more controlled beam. Yes if aimed incorrectly like any bulbs can be blinding. But putting a Xenon bulb without a projector almost guarantees glare for other users because it needs the projector housing to be controlled.

Housings designed for LED = good, or ok...expensive but those have proper light patterns vs those bulb only replacements. The light just ins't right in em. I pulled mine out, went with HID's or back to stock, depends on the vehicle and use. What I'm really saying is they aren't safer because their pattern is messed up on those, when its pitch black down country roads with those, that weird pattern vs fully lit and consistent really shows the problems with them...They are OK in city and freeways but I dunno, just not good enough yet IMHO.
@AnthonyJ350
7 жыл бұрын
Dh66 They're definitely not optimized yet. But you can argue the same thing about putting HID bulbs in a halogen housing and blinding incoming traffic. I just used my truck in 100 mile BC coming home at night. And that's a 5 hour drive and a good portion of that is mountain highway.
