While traveling around the world we have seen a couple of beaches and beach towns, but Krabi in Thailand has been the most well-known name so far. Actually, it is not Krabi Town but its villages like Ao Nang that have the famous beaches, so don't locate yourself in Krabi Town when you want to hit the beach. We logged near Hat Noppharat Thara Beach but Ao Nang Beach was also not far away. We spend some days at the beach but also did some island and mainland exploring.
These are our Krabi Top places you have to visit!
Ao Nang Town and its beaches!
A beach and party town at its best. Tonnes of souvenir shops, restaurants with menus big enough to suit every foreign taste, tour operators and bars, bars, bars. Expect to be greeted with 'Do you like beer?' or 'Want suit?' from the guys standing in front of the shops and restaurants trying to lure costumers in. Besides that, there also three or maybe even four food night markets, more or less authentic. Ao Nang Town is also a good place to practice your Russian and Chinese reading skills. If you're then tired of partying and reading, the obvious choice is heading to Ao Nang Beach or Hat Noppharat Thara Beach. Both beaches are gently shelving so you don't need good swimming skills out of a sudden.
The Emerald Pool!
This is a natural pool in a beautiful swampland-like forest. It is a serene area with creeks of green, yellow and blue surrounding and lingering around a tropical forest. The namesake pool, the Emerald Pool has its color due to minerals. It has a deep turquoise color. the water is shining in brilliant colors. You can take a swim in the Emerald Pool and it is supposed to have healing powers!
Hot Spring!
Positioned in a forest, these natural hot spring flow into multiple natural ponds, before ending up in a river. During years of erosion, the ponds became sleek and smooth. The water in the ponds is so hot you should not bath longer than 15 minutes in it. If you don't overdo it, it has a very relaxing effect. The scenery only adds to the experience! However, aim to come early in the morning as it gets crowded fast. If you stay too long you might become hotheaded ;-)
Tiger Cave Temple!
It's situated somewhere in the mainland behind Krabi so you need your own wheels or a Tour to get there. The Temple is on a mountain.
1260 stairs lead up to it. When you have conquered them all you are rewarded with a stunning view, a golden Buddha and a thrilling descend on this way-to-steep steps. By the way, it is called Tiger Cave because a Tiger used to live in this area. But don't worry this is long ago and there are no reports of Tiger attacks at the current time. :)
Chicken Island!
Thais call this island chicken island because it is formed like one. That's at least what they gonna tell you. Well, there is something like a head and with a lot of fantasy or maybe a distortion of perception you could think its a chicken. More interesting about Chicken Island than its form is the snorkeling spot on its shores. There is a place where all the longboats will bring their passengers because you will definitely see fish there. You go into the water right off the boat and surprisingly the fish don't mind the tourists at all.
Tup and Thap Island!
These two neighboring islands are so close you can actually walk from one to the other while low tide! There is a small way, formed by a sandbank as soon as low tide hits but beware that it is gone as soon as the tide starts to rise, so don't forget the time or you have to swim back to your boat. Both islands are not far offshore from Hat Noppharat Thara and Ao Nang Beach.
Poda Island!
This island is easily reachable by longboat from Hat Noppharat Thara Beach or Ao Nang Beach. Its a tiny island so not too much to explore besides sunbathing, swimming and enjoying the crystal clear, turquoise water. The beaches are huge but most people stay close to the spot where the boats land so if you cross the island's tiny jungle you can have a relatively calm beach with fewer tourists! This will only take 10 minutes so if you are looking for privacy, this is totally worth it.
