I figured this out without this video when I was getting shin splints while running

As a sprinter and rugby player there are a few issues with this video. First, you DO want to try to strike the ground with your heel - sprinters work on drills like the penguin walk specifically to try land on their heels when they run. Second (and linked with the first), you must strike the ground under your body and not in front of it. This is what causes the hamstring to overwork. So to confirm, strike the ground under your body (which means standing tall in your running technique and having a strong core and hip flexors) and aim to land on your heels (although mechanically this won’t happen in reality). As it relates to this athlete, he doesn’t have sufficient core strength to run tall and his posture is slouched as opposed to upright which results in striking the ground out in front of him which is slowing him down

that’s literally what I was saying he was striking infront of his body and as for the core he was working at it,

Hey brother good advice!! Does landing the foot under your body prevent injuries?

@@BigBopahyes it does. Striking in front of the body is what overworks the hamstring (as the hamstring has to work hard to bring the leg back behind the body in a way it wouldn’t if you strike under your body). This is a very common cause of hamstring tears. Easiest mental cues are to stand tall in your sprint, strike under the body and focus on landing on your heel
