60-120 mph in 20s is no joke, especially for an "economy car". My mom has one of these, and I swear the CVT makes acceleration feel better.

Yeah they're kinda quick tbh. I agree the cvt just works for this car. Ordinarily I wouldn't like a cvt. Hybrids are kinda weird with the transmission. Most have good power, I even own an 05 Prius that can accelerate well. Yes, a Prius! 😂 It's all about finessing the pedal to enable the transmission to use gas and electric at full power for as long as possible and not engage the gas engine more heavily which makes it slow. I have a newer 2019 fusion hybrid I'll probably make a video on.

@@AustinRides7264 Despite how fast the 2013 hybrid is, I was able to get an average of 60mpg on a 60 mile round trip once (and it was in the Rocky Mountains at 55mph). This car singlehandedly made me fall in love with hybrids, because it's eco when you want, and powerful when you want.

@@specialopsdave same. It was the first hybrid I ever drove and owned. I was very skeptical because most of my other cars I've owned were V8s or V6s. I've owned like one four cylinder economy car 😆 I was shocked at the blend of power when you want it but really good fuel economy and they're stupid reliable. Surprised more people don't drive them honestly. I'd like to try the plug in version. I like when the electric motor goes into ev plus mode and does pure ev acceleration. That's pretty neat. I drove for 3 miles one time on all ev! That shocked me. So they can be very efficient

Just like my old C-max Hybrid. That engine is no joke. I almost wish I kept and built that car instead of getting my focus st. Certainly would have been more interesting than another fast focus.

Nothing wrong with a fast focus! I would love to see someone swap out the battery pack for a bigger one or put in a beefier electric motor or do something with the 2.0 Atkinson motor. I definitely think there are some mods you could do with enough money to make it a wild sleeper. I love sleepers. I make good money doing gig work full-time and need the gas mileage so these cars are great but their performance is no joke! I have a 2019 Lincoln MKC with the 2.0 Ecoboost and honestly I think the fusion or cmax I have would give it a run for its money. Just discovered too that the cmax seems to perform way better when I have the gauge set to show the fuel range rather than engage or empower. Have no idea why that is but now it's an absolute rocket. Like I drive a 2022 model 3 standard range for a week and my cmax is almost going as fast as one of those 😂have no idea what gives. Stock they have 117 HP on the electric motor and 176 tq, and 143 hp for the gas and 123 tq so add it up and that's impressive power in a car with no gears and that's fairly light. Plus with the battery weighing the back down the power can go to the wheels more easily

I actually noticed watching the duty cycle on the VVT solenoids that the timing does seem to hold itself in the best position for top end power of you put it in L (low gear) on the stick. That combined with the engine already being in its power band because of the low gear ratio makes it great for throttle response if you know that you're gonna need it soon. If I had kept the car I'd have done some exhaust work so people could really hear the engine hold 6k all the way to the speed limit. I did end up replacing the rear shocks with KYB gas-a-just shocks and the rear sway bar with that from mazdaspeed3. That sway bar is a drop in replacement if you get new bushings. Completely changed how she handled. Honestly an amazing car. Only reason I got rid of it was the transmission was threatening to give out (no issues yet but I was at 120k and on the 2013s they're known to pop at 100k) and the focus came around at the right price. I was ready to drop the eCVT for a stick and a turbo and the papers got signed. I might get a later model cmax in the future to modify and build into my dream track hybrid. Full intake, exhaust and tune, unlikely to do battery modifications but would have the tuner disable start stop so the battery is always getting charged when im off the gas, even when not moving. I do know when the car is in limp mode the engine charges the battery a lot more aggressively (6kw vs 1kw) since limp mode will only let you past 30mph if that speed is maintained by the electric motor alone so I'd see about putting the charging system in that mode at all times. I experimented a lot with that car, watching all sorts of realtime stats like pack voltage, charge level, charge and discharge speed (the latter could be extrapolated into accurate HP output from the electric motor. Fun fact: it never got anywhere near the 118 peak HP it claims which means there's a LOT left on the table for performance there. Closer to 50hp peak is what I saw) and many others. These cars are so cool man.

@@sethfirethornw101 exactly! Completely agree with using L when you know you're gonna need the power like on the highway. Doesn't hurt the transmission at all. My 2013 ford fusion hybrid has 225k miles! Never changed the transmission fluid either. Only coolant flushes. Oil changes every ten thousand miles. All I had to replace was a speed sensor, that's it! Original brake pads too. 7mm thickness left ford told me. They were shocked how clean it was. Suspension still solid! I wanna drive the fusion up fill half a million miles. The cmax I'll keep too and try to make money with it on get around. I bought it as a car for my turo fleet to make some passive income, plus I just wanted to try it out. I loved the fusion hybrid and the thought of owning a little hatchback like that? Couldn't pass it up. It's the sel too with the sony sound system and all the goodies. For whatever reason the exhaust sounds way better on my fusion than cmax. Like the exhaust on the fusion feels damn powerful and loud. Doesn't have an exhaust leak either. I have owned a V12 and lots of V8s and I absolutely adore these hybrids. I even raced a newer ram 1500 recently and one in the fusion. We were door to door but passed him after 110 😂 also smoked a newer Acura RDX with the 2.0 turbo from Honda. I bet he was surprised seeing the cmax pass him by. Gave him a head start. Lol! I hope you end up getting one again. They're cheap! Amazing little cars. Very underrated. They'll last a really long time too. Some do have the transmission issue like you said in the earlier years. Both my 2013 fusion and cmax models seem totally fine. I have 105k miles on the cmax. Yeah I think with an exhaust these cars would sound badass! It's a great motor. I love the way my fusion hybrid sounds. 🤣 Can't believe I'm saying that but I love feeling the vibration of the exhaust as I ease into it. Feels powerful. I'll make some more vids! Some asswipe totalled my fusion at my apartment complex parking lot overnight. Drunk guy. Replaced the steering, suspension, bearings, axle, fenders, bumper, headlights...finally getting it back tomorrow after being gone two months 🤯

The hybrids are quite funny. They're limited to 120 for whatever reason. But they pull all the way to the top. I've had faster runs than this even. The transmission holds it back and the battery size. But these babies have over 300 torque and about 260 horsepower.
