I bought my Viking Topaz 50 from Sew What's New & Yarn too in Islip NY. I got stuck in the middle of a project and Linda helped me through so I could finish it. That doesn't happen if you order online to save a few bucks.

I was in a head on collision with a 18 wheeler and sustained horrible injuries to my face along with others. The scarring was horrific and I was told I had to wait at least a year before I could get any cosmetic surgeries because of the other injuries that needed to completely heal. My self confidence went to the bottom of the barrel. I wouldn't go out of my home & covered my face even when my husband looked at me. What I saw in the mirror was a frightful monster ( of course looking at the only 2 photos of me from that time I looked worse to me than I actually looked but it was still really bad). My grandmum had taught me to sew and in my teen years after a death in my family I was struggling with. She, I and my friend would sew together for hours on end. It was a wonderful experience & we were both on top of the world with each finished project or new skill mastered. This same friend showed up at my door after my hubby called her in desperation with her arms loaded with bags of fabric, spools of thread & patterns galore. She said " We're sewing" and marched past me. I went to my bedroom and hid in horror. She & hubby dug out my sewing machine, set it up,made sure it was working then came to the bedroom and practically drug me to the dining room where she'd set us up. My machine on one side of the dining table, hers across from me. She fanned out patterns in front of me & said "pick". I said no & she replied she wasn't leaving until we'd done some sewing. She's always been insanely stubborn. So we sewed for a few hours. I had to admit I felt better. Not good but better. She came back nearly every day for 10 months to sew with me. As I tried on my new clothes I didn't see my face. I saw my new garment and beamed. The scarring turned from ugly red to ugly pink that could be mostly covered with a heavy foundation. She finally coaxed me out of the house about 8 months later to go to a fabric store. I was in heaven. I felt whole & good. Eventually I had a lot of cosmetic surgery and the only clearly visible remain is a long scar across my forehead I can cover with bangs. The rest I can mostly cover with a medium foundation. Sewing truly renews a broken spirit. A wonderful caring sewing buddy friend & sewing are what miracles are made of.

Hi Kim. I am making my way through some of your videos and I wanted to ask (only answer if/when you have time - no rush) a question. Do you recall the fabric that you used for the La Bella Donna, the one with you in the photo. I absolutely love that pattern on the fabric. I have such a hard time finding these beautiful fabrics that I see in yours and others videos. Our local store sells very little of what I like, and I seem to get lost in the online shopping scenario. Thank you so much for all of the content that you create to support people like me who just love to sew.

First time I've seen any of your videos. I love the tops as they're such a basic bonus in any wardrobe. However, please don't fall into the trap of us older, slightly larger, ladies often do. That is to have our tops too long. Think about proportions and keep your tops much shorter than your ankle length trousers. Remember, on average, the height of your hip bone is 1/2 your height 😉

Hi, Maria- yes, these are all knit. There are very few woven patterns that can be made out of a yard. For good results, it’s best not to make a knit pattern from woven fabric. It most likely will not fit properly.

Can you tell me which looper to use on the surger? I’m just learning the surger.
@dorothysdaughtersews
2 жыл бұрын
The surged stitch is made up by using both an upper and a lower looper. Usually, the upper looper is the second one in from the right. A helpful way to identify the stitches is to put 4 colors on your serger, and then serge a scrap of fabric. Then you can visually see the threads and what each one does.

If the fit issues are in the bust, I recommend Itch-to-Stitch, Charmed Patterns or Cashmerette because many or all of their patterns are drafted for multiple cup sizes. I still have to do a sway back adjustment and maybe grade between sizes on from the waist to the hips, but that’s nothing compared to a full bust adjustment.

Kim this is a fantastic video!!! I have the LaBella Donna pattern but it will now be made up this weekend! I just made the summer basic tanks and love that the straps/arms cover my bra straps - OMG LOVE LOVE LOVE that. I found it interesting that you featured other tanks in this video. Can you tell me if any of them hide the bra straps? Like the P4P essential tank? The curved hem tank looks like it would. If you have a moment to respond that would be great - but so loving the summer basic tank! Always love watching your videos!
