First time watching one of your videos, and I must say your channel is a real gem!! This video is incredibly informative 🙏 I achieved 2급 in 2020 and attempted the TOPIK 2 exam twice in the past three years, but faced challenges due to insufficient studying and my ADHD making it difficult to maintain focus on paper-based tests. The IBT format seems more suitable for me (I hope not to get any technical issue). Currently in South Korea on a working holiday, I was initially hesitant due to the cost, but after watching your video, I see it as a great opportunity for me. I should give it a try at least once!

Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, if you've found that you've had challenges with the paper-based test, it might be at least worth a try to take the TOPIK IBT! It is a bummer that it costs a bit more, but if it suits you better, then it's probably worth it.

Thank you, this is super helpful. I'm going to save it for the future because my current level is so low that I can't take the TOPIK! Also, congratulations on your scores, you did amazing!!!! Don't worry about the writing part, I'm sure they're still figuring out how to grade the computer writing test since, as you said, it's different from the paper one.

Thanks! I made this so that people considering taking the TOPIK in the future could make an informed decision 😊 I've made my peace with that writing score 😂 I think it's actually a more accurate representation of my writing skills than the way they grade the paper one, honestly, so it's good motivation for me to push myself to improve my weaknesses. Best of luck in your Korean journey! 화이팅!

Congratulation! You did amazing :) and for the less successful part, I'm sure it's the computer's fault! I would like to pass the TOPIK 1 this year, so nervous about it ahaha (even though it's nothing compare to what you did :x ! )
@SomedayKorean

Thank you!! And after reflecting on my writing abilities, I'm pretty sure it the less successful part is all due to my own weaknesses haha. This scoring system is just honestly a lot more realistic (and therefore a bit shockingly low at first😅) Best of luck with TOPIK 1! Honestly, I think the journey from 0 Korean to TOPIK 1 Korean is equally as impressive as from advanced Korean to more advanced Korean, if not even more impressive! You're learning an entirely new skill from the very beginning, whereas I'm in the stage of just practicing a lot to improve a skill I already have. It's so much more tiring on the brain to do the new-skill-building part!

I wonder that in the listening part, section that we have to answer 2 questions per one audio, would the screen appear 2 of the questions at the same time? Thank you so much for your information!

I took IBT test this June and this week results came out. During and right after the exam I thought I screwed up so much, but it apparently I got level 4, the one that I aimed for. The writing section score evaluation is indeed confusing, because I only completed questions 51 and 52 and did not write an essay, and got 82 for this. But you completed every task and got only 86... At this point I'm not sure if it's about harsh evaluation creteria, I think your score for writing should have been a lot higher. It's like 53 has not been checked at all...

Thanks so much for this helpful video - I have one question. I'm a bit confused about the listening section and it's time. Do you answer the listening question and once you answer, it moves directly to the next question? Or can you answer and still have a few seconds before it moves to the next question? If so, how long do you have to potentially change your mind/think about it? 2 seconds or more like 10-15 seconds? 😅 Thank you!!
@SomedayKorean
7 ай бұрын
You answering has no effect on the pacing of the test 🙂 There is a set amount of "풀이시간" where you can answer/change your answer after the audio ends, and at the end of that 풀이시간, it automatically goes on to the next page whether you've answered or not haha. The amount of 풀이시간 gets longer as the test goes on (at least for the TOPIK II -- I've never taken the TOPIK I, so I don't have knowledge about that. I think it starts around maybe 4-5 seconds of extra answering time for shorter questions, and gets up to 20ish seconds of silence before the screen changes once there are 2 questions to answer per audio clip. (This doesn't include the time you have to answer while the audio is actually playing, as well) To get a better idea of how much time you have, you can download a past test (the paper version), go to the listening audio, and take note how many seconds pass in silence between the end of one question and the beginning of the next for different sections of the test. The amount of silence given to answer should be roughly the same between the paper version and the IBT.

The testing centers might all be slightly different, but in my experience it was a Korean keyboard. Right now, as far as I know, the IBT is only offered in Korea, and generally computers in Korea have a Korean keyboard, so I would be shocked if they used computers with a different language keyboard.

Hi! 😄 You should be able to directly register on the TOPIK website during the registration period. The TOPIK website should have already posted all of the tests that will happen in Korea this year, and it will also show the dates when you can register. I would recommend registering early in that time period so that you can make sure you get a seat in a good location for you -- some of them sell out pretty quickly! The TOPIK website is available in 5 different languages, as well, so you can change the site language to navigate the site more easily if you need to. ☺

They also had the spoken words attached together with the multiple question answer as text in the older papers so i guess that’s why they spoke much faster? (example topik 2 47)

@@iwamochi I haven't listened to any of the tests from that far back, but I didn't notice any difference between the paper and IBT audio speeds. Yes, just one fewer question. There is only 1 fill-in-the-blank question (rather than the 2 from the traditional paper TOPIK), then the shorter 200-300 character graph essay and the longer 600-700 multi-paragraph essay

I'm not totally sure, to be honest... I would guess it depends on how many locations/seats are available and if there's any difference in demand for paper tests vs computer. 🤔 If I recall correctly, the IBT is a bit more expensive, so perhaps that also affects how popular it is

All of the question types are the same -- there are minor differences in a few question types (like the sequencing questions) that I mention in the video. I couldn't tell you an exact number of questions per type, but don't stress out too much about it! I would guesstimate that there is roughly one fewer question per question type, so just prepare for a slightly shorter version of the paper test.

@@RichaTiwari-dn4kb I honestly don't recall about specific question types outside of what I mentioned in my video. I think the question styles are all the same -- it's just a smaller number of total questions. The second question is hard to answer. In my experience they graded the computer version more harshly because you have a more advanced tool (typing and being able to edit vs handwriting), but it all depends on your personal abilities.
