History:
Topkapi Palace, the residence of the Ottoman sultans, the administration and education center of the state. Conqueror of Istanbul Sultan II. The palace was built by Mehmed between 1460-1478 and some additions were made in time. The Ottoman sultans and the people of the palace lived until the middle of the 19th century. In the early 1850s, the Sultans moved to the Dolmabahçe Palace in the Bosphorus because of the inadequacy of the existing Palace's state protocol and ceremonies. However, government rites continued to be held here because of the treasury, the sacred relics, and the imperial archives, which were preserved in the Topkapı Palace, as a paternal quarry and the Biblical Relics. Topkapı Palace was converted into a museum on April 3, 1924 by the order of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk after the Ottoman monarchy was abolished in 1922. After the conquest, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror built a palace in Beyazit where the present Istanbul University was located, which was later called the ’Old Palace Fatih. After this first palace, Fatih built the Topkapı Palace, where he had first settled at the Tiled Pavilion and later on when the construction was completed. Fatih gave this palace its name ”Saray-ı Cedid ini which means Ced Yeni Saray ini in Ottoman Empire. The new palace was called as Topkapı Palace: The name of the palace was given to the new palace by the Sultan I. Mahmud when the large wooden beach palace called ön Topkapusu Beach Palace: was completely burned due to the salute balls in front of the Byzantine walls. In the determination of the plan of Topkapı Palace, which has been developing and growing for centuries, the relations between Ottoman state philosophy and Saray-tebaa have played a great role. In addition, when Sultan Topkapı was first built, Sultan Mehmed II's father was Sultan II. It is known that Murad was built on the banks of Tunca River and inspired by the splendor of Edirne Palace, which is the only surviving ruin. Topkapı Palace's plan; Among the various courtyards and gardens, the apartments, which are reserved for state affairs, consist of buildings and mansions, which are the residence of the ruler and buildings for the residents of the palace. The Palace, built on the Byzantine acropolis of Sarayburnu, located at the end of the Istanbul peninsula between the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn, is surrounded by land with high walls called the ak Sur-i Sultani 00 with a length of 1400 meters and by the Byzantine walls by the sea. The area covered by the palace is about 700,000 square meters. An important part of this area is reserved for Hasbahçe. Topkapı Palace consists of two organizations, Bîrun and Enderun. The Harem is part of the Enderun. The session plan, ceremonies and venues of the palace are organized according to this organization. Topkapi palace; The Bâb-ı Hümâyun consists of three main gates, four courtyards, Harem, Hasbahçe (Gülhane) and gardens. Topkapi Palace is a modest palace; the vast expanses of the empire were mostly made for magnificent mosques, barracks, bridges, caravanserais and accommodation facilities. Even the famous architect of the 16th century, Mimar Sinan, built only one section in this palace. But the palace 's unique buildings, exquisite tiles and nature intertwined with the structure, Sarayburnu' s position gives him a natural beauty and glory. On the other hand, the history of Topkapı Palace with its extraordinary rich collections and highly engaging stories makes this palace one of the most spectacular palaces in the world.
