I have this tent and it has been awesome! Took a chance as my first RTT and it paid off. TopOak even makes an additional insulation layer that you can use for cold-weather camping. I have used it in sub-30-degree weather with high winds and it was a champ. I hope this changes the market in terms of what these all RTT cost in the long run. Overlading is already expensive and paying 4k for a tent is kind of insane ha.

I’ve been using this RTT for almost a year, including a lot of winter camping in snow, ice and rain. Holding up great and does everything I need it to do. Keeps me warm and dry, sets up and takes down quickly. Study and plenty of room for my wife and myself. Only thing I’ve upgraded was the mattress

You have become a go to for content related to what we need and don’t need for overlanding. We are completely new. We bought a GX460 in late June to use as our platform. We don’t have a large budget, and it will probably take us years to get the GX up yo snuff. This tent is being purchased today… We have been in a Coleman tent, and are looking forward to having an easier set up. Thank you for what you do. We truly enjoy your content.

Great video and review! I got rid of my Smittybuilt XL and replaced with an off road squaredrop for a few reasons. 1. My wife was tried of climbing up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. 2. It was heavy 3. The cover was a pita to take off and put on. Now youve got me considering this for my solo trips. Plus it would work on top of my square drop in the case I'm ever blessed with Grandkids some day and they would want to come along. First time commenter, Cheers!

Off topic here. Just saw you “ Dont’t Be That Guy” video. Thank you sooooo much for this ! I love off roading! Most folks are truly thoughtful and enjoy the wild beauty. But our Ozarks are a very fragile ecosystem… the streams are fragile and many of the plants here fall into the At Risk category, some even in Endangered. Thos creek sides are the environment where many of them thrive. I just wanted to thank you for bringing up staying on trail.

I have been impressed by several of the "amazon" tents. For the vast majority of people who camp once a month at most, its hard to pay 3-4K for a tent when these others exist for 1/3 the cost. I recently purchased a Naturenest off amazon and it seems very well made, came with features others charge a lot extra for, and features others don't even offer like a 12v USB and cig lighter hub! Even had Anderson style connectors on the bottom to run power convienently.

I have the Naturenest that I got from Amazon, which is very similar to the Top Oak - I do wish mine had the skylight but the Top Oak was out of stock when I was looking to make the purchase, and the Naturenest had a pretty substantial coupon on Amazon. I have no doubt that there are "nicer" tents, and perhaps for heavy users those are appropriate, but I certainly think for many people the Top Oak or Naturenest will open the door for a RTT experience. I have been a long time ground tent camper, and I haven't gotten rid of my ground tents - but my knees appreciate the rooftop tent much more than setting up the ground tent and I don't have to bring as much stuff in the car!

I see that you have the Xtrusion Overland truck rack which is something I also possess on my truck however I have a bit of a complicated question as I went with the numbskull idea of getting a lockable tonneau cover for my truck bed since I still wanted the ability to secure my gear as I live in a fairly unsavory area. I have the lockable Retrax Pro XR with T-Slots which is where my truck rack is actually mounted into, in your professional opinion do you think with this tent and two people inside if this would go over well or work out without the fear of something undesirable happening? I understand this question is fairly vague and doesn't cover every aspect, but I was just wondering in a roundabout way.

Matt, Completely off the topic here but...new to offroading and trying to decide on whether to replace my factory tonneau cover with something--topper or rack. With your open rack have you ever had a problem with a bear or other varmint? Seems like the food & cooking smells would attract them. My soft tonneau wouldn't last a minute. Jud

@elegymusic

minus the clamshell aspect these are the same materials as my CVT RTT. the checkered pattern on the roof is exactly the same. the mattress is the same, but id wonder if the plastic window skylight will fog over like the CVT ones did or if they changed the material. Id bet money that the same people who either sourced this or made this used the same as CVT. Not saying its bad because i havent had a problem with mine at all yet.
