Hopefully someone can reveal if this is natural or a sign of a serious problem. Walking through this stand of redwoods, near the Jedidiah State Smith park in Northern California, the forest appears healthy and vibrant, but rising up above the tops of the trees you'll see greyed, needless limbs and peaks of many trees. I would love to know if this is a natural phenomena or the result of disease, beetles or heat? The wood appears grey and weathered and I could see no dead or dying greenery which suggests it's been happening over a longer term.
