Toptul says it is 27-135 Nm range. Can you set it to values below 27 Nm and use it? My question is not about the accuracy outside the rated range, but the actual ability of the device to be set below the rated ranges, like setting at 10 Nm or 20 Nm.

yes you can do it below 27Nm with decent accuracy. I do 10Nm torquing of 6mm 8.8 grade bolts, and 22Nm for 8mm 8.8 bolts all the time. Above 135Nm I have not tried.

Did you get calibration done? I rarely use mine like 5 times a year . is calibration still necessary?

calibration is advised per year even if you don't use it for critical jobs. But if you don't much use it and handle it very carefully (like not throwing in tool boxes, etc) and keep it under advised storage environment, you can get away for 1-2 years. But I recommend getting it calibrated every year if you do critical tightening jobs even seldom like tightening engine mount bolts, head bolts, or main bearing bolts, etc

Why you prefer 3/8 over 1/2 square drive?

I wanted only that torque range, basically used to tight the main bearing bolts of my nexon initially, but then found its the perfect mid range for all critical car bolts like the main bearing bolts, wheel studs, engine mounts, etc
