This time we are struggling with running water and it is the longest river in Italy with its 652 km entirely included in the Italian territory, the Pò. To give an idea of what this means, here are some data on its hydrographic basin: 75,000 sq km - km of watercourses: 4500 - Regions concerned: Aosta Valley, Piedmont,
Liguria, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and the Autonomous Province of Trento - 141 tributaries and 43 main ones (22 on the left and 21 on the right) - 24 provinces involved - 3200 municipalities concerned. In practice, it collects the waters of a quarter of the whole country. Our adventure takes place in the Lombard part, the Pavese area near the confluence with the Ticino river and we soon realize how the approach to running water is another world compared to lakes, starting from the hauling of the boat, up to the actual fishing that takes place in drift and is dictated by the flow of water. Then you have to deal with the levels that vary continuously, passing from a few meters to a few centimeters and making navigation potentially dangerous if you are not equipped with the right boat and the indispensable experience and knowledge of the place. The goal is the Aspio, a very fun predator to catch on spinning, able to give top water bites in full current, a very particular and demanding fishing that can give great satisfaction but that should not be taken lightly.
Good vision!
