Toreando Style Open Guard Passing for No Gi and Gi
The Toreando can be described as going around your partner's legs from a standing position to pass their Open Guard.
The focus on Part 1 will be very basic things like Stance, Grips, Pressure, Footwork, and more. The techniques will use different connecting positions such as Knee on Belly to establish a path to Side Control.
Keep in mind, this video only covers a fraction of possibilities. Submissions, Back takes, Mount, and more can always be used as further threats in a Toreando Pass scenario.
1️⃣Provides details on stance, grips for Gi and No Gi, and how to make pressure with both.
2️⃣Demonstrates how to use foot work to get around your partner's legs. Particularly lateral steps, cross steps, and pivots.
3️⃣Looks at further footwork as a means to counter your partner's defense. In this case we will be using our foot work to switch from side to side.
4️⃣This will be our first guard pass straight to Side Control. This is a very basic finish for a Toreando when our opponent drops their feet and tries to push us away to recover.
5️⃣Our next attack will be a connection to a floating Knee on Belly position. This is typically done when the guard player does not drop their feet and stays flat on their back. We will again finish the same way by going to Side Control.
6️⃣The final transition will be a leg pin when our partner begins to face us from the above scenarios. Side Control will once again be the destination.
