I wish Tori would read me a bedtime story every night. She has the most gentle, soothing speaking voice, even in her version of '96 Bonnie & Clyde. Disturbing content, but melting voice.

I've been watching a lot of Tori clips (long time fan) and she speaks a lot about women's experiences, and her experiences as a woman. I feel like her feminism is a deep feminism, rooted in history, myth, and spirituality.

The song is "Crucify", off her first album,"Little Earthquakes" her live version of the song are quite different from the recorded album verison. She has been the most important part of music for me for over 20 years of my life.

Tori is way ahead of her time - like most geniuses people don't understand enough yet to appreciate her message (thinking she's 'crazy'). What she says is true, and the answers are out there for everyone who sincerely asks if you aren't sure for yourself. She is seriously extremely intelligent and BRAVE, damn. In the coming years our perceptions of 'right' and 'wrong' and religious fanatacism will come to an end, and people can start loving eachother for a change (Jesus' #1 teaching afterall)!

She is right on. You must watch to the end. She is unafraid of truth. As an effeminate male as I have been labeled, I can fully relate to some of the things she says from a womans stand point but being a man who people see as not strong. Except I am incredibly strong just in a different way than what people have been told over centuries. love Tori~

@nottheredbaron ah, to speculate! after getting indignant in the early 90's at the idea of her entitling a song, "Cut and Dried," how would she respond to hearing that she'd later entitle some, "Fast Horse," "Hootchie Woman," "My Posse Can Do," and "The Power of Orange Knickers"? after deciding against the slightly suggestive tight dress for the UTP cover, what would she have thought of her last two album's art? or pip's version of "Silent"? should we travel back in time and warn her?

@nottheredbaron i've moved from the us to the uk (tori has been my idol : ) so my fanzines where i read about the fictional cut and dried are in storage, unfortunately. her reaction to the rumor back in...93? was that there's no way she'd give a song a dumb title like that one. which makes "that guy" kinda funny now. i realize we are all walking contradictions and evolve as we live. i just wish that the new releases could be as exciting as they were, instead of seeing what can be salvaged.

um- not- the reference she made to buddha wa sthat buddha is a god- she said buddha was a god like all gods in all god worshipping religion. and that is not true. budhism is not about worshping god or putting all your power into budha or anything like that. she said that it shouldnt be about getting your power from a god like buddha- but from yourself. and thats what buddhism is...

It's the end of a cycle in the Mayan calendar, not the end of the world. In traditional religions the end of the cycle is the time for cleansing and leaving untruths behind. Then the new cycle can be started spiritually fresh, clean and pure.

when you strip your sexuality, it is when you become a monk, that's what they do, either gender. to dis-associate yourself with what is lustful which is ancient tribalism, embedded in our mind from before we were humans even. nothing majestic or pure about that, just biological state(lust) to ensure continuativity. that being said-I simply adore tori amos.

And isn't that why she mentioned Buddha in the first place? It's not particularly intelligent to expect that much ignorance from people all the time. It may cloud your own judgement. And it would certainly explain why you would take a position contrary to that of a woman who just stated that the power is within you. Break it up: Power within you... we're all enlightened... get the connection? This is by far the best interview I've seen of her.

i love her too, but in the last minute shes not too clear about something: i disagree with her putting buddha into the same bag as the other "saviors" you need to find outside yourself. buddha is not an external savior. buddha just gave his desciples methods to achieve the same state he had achieved - he never said the only way was thorugh him or that kind of crap. buddha wanted colleagues, not blind followers. everyone has the same potential as he had, regardless of race/origin/cast/whatever.

@pippigladstone No offense, but I think you don't understand, perhaps, the religious allegory. Tori is extremely intelligent. She used allegory and sarcasm liberally, so if you don't "get " that...it doesn't make her "out there" somewhere, it just means that she communicates in a way that you simply don't relate. No biggie. But frankly, MORE people should "need to come back to planet earth" if that is what you call her mentality.

and when did i say i expect people to always be ignorant? what i said was why do so many self proclaimed intellegent americans always talk about religions that they dont know about- as if they know about them- using these "intelectual" sounding references to make them appear as if they know what they are talking about..i didnt say ALL people talk like this. i was reffering to those that do..so maybe you should read things more carefully beofre telling im not intellegent.
@bunnylooker

why is it that every self proclaimed intellegent american sticks buddhism in with other religions- claiming that Buddha is a "savior". Buddha is sanskrit for "enlightened one" and Buddha said we are all Buddhas. the goal IS to find the truth iside YOURSELF and then become A buddha. Im so tired of people talking about religion. trying to be profound about things they dont know. i like her music. i could do without her interviews.

althou i'm pretty rational and would use other terms she is right about a lot of things. First of all, althou women competing in the 'men' world from 1970+ is true, them adepting becomming more manlike is also true. Atm its not about adjusting laws anymore, its about women not only competing in every aspect of the society, but also remaining their trueselfs while they are at it. About the point she makes about religion. The messages of religion have become butchered over the years.

Man has been damned from the beginning...by Eve. So The only way a man be saved is through a woman that is sexless, so basically if a woman cuts off her passion and sexuality...then she is spiritual ~ Tori Amos
