The biggest pain in the a** are the 3 screws in each wheel well. I highly recommend a 90 degree hex adapter (ordered, but too late for this project) if you have some hex torx or a hex adapter or torx socket for a socket wrench. Thanks for the video! The cutting turns out to be no big deal.

Just want to share a fix for unscrewing the (3) washers if you do not have the right angle wrench. You can use 1/4” wrench 🔧 with the T bit.

Thanks for posting. Just an FYI, the wheel well material (spongey fabric stuff) is for road noise attenuation.

Is it a through hole on the hitch? Is it solid? Will it hold the 300 pounds?
@EVpleb
3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by through hole. The hitch is extremely solid. I have only ever loaded it with a bike rack and four bikes, which it handled with ease. Not sure of the total weight but likely we’ll under 300 lbs. based on the build of the hitch and the way it’s attached to the car, I’m sure it would hold up to spec.

The plate on the back caps off the hitch opening. First time I've ever seen a hitch that didn't have a through hole for the receiver tube.

Very helpful, great descriptive video! We just finished installing ours by following your steps, including cutting the hole in the fascia instead of cutting the full slot. Pretty easy drilling some holes, and cutting with a Dremel cutting disk We left a 1.25-inch strip of plastic instead of 1.5-inch, so getting the fascia back on was easy. Doing it ourselves saved us about $400, and I don't think the "professionals" would have taken the trouble to save the fascia edge. Great job, and thanks!

Great video! A hitch for my Bolt is definitely on the list! Do you know if there are any warranty implications if you do tow something with it?
@EVpleb
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m not aware of the warranty implications for towing. I’ve read a few articles about owners of EVs that are not rated to tow who do it anyway, and mostly they’re just comfortable with the level of risk involved with warranty, insurance, and safety concerns. If I ever decided I’d need to do it, I would look into it more carefully.

Really appreciated the detail that went into each step. Very helpful for my own successful install. We ran into a small difference in that the rear brake lights cable was still attached to the crash guard, so had to put it close by while doing the other steps. Also realized we only needed to peel 2 plastic rivets in Step 4. I peeled a 3rd and broke it (doh).

Would you be willing to share the instructions that came with your hitch? I got one of these but it didn't come with the written instructions and Torklift will not send me any for some reason. Would be greatly appreciated.

That’s strange. Did you order direct from the company? My instructions were tucked into the receiver and I initially thought there weren’t any as well. Not sure why they wouldn’t send to you. I’ll see if I can find mine and if there aren’t any explicit copyright terms, I’d be happy to send.

No. I haven’t and don’t have plans to in the near future. Mostly using for bike rack now. Need to install wiring in order to tow, but I don’t have any immediate needs.
