We bought the same mower back in 1991ish for my parents as a gift that had the new Briggs/Toro engine to replace Suzuki engine. My brother is still using the mower today. Kudos to Briggs/Toro for designing a good engine. A couple of years ago the carb fell off from machine-while it was running! I guess the gasket dried out after 30 years and bolts lost preload.

I have one of these that's about 10 years old with a Briggs engine, self propelled and I absolutely love it. I love the Personal Pace feature the best. It's so much easier than Honda's paddles which are hard to hold steady on uneven ground. I love the adjustable folding handle, something that Honda doesn't even have. I love how quiet it is, the good mulching job it does, and the way it continues to start easily with 1, 2 or 3 pulls even after 10 years. I also love that it has enough horsepower to easily mulch my lawn. I had a Honda before this that did not have enough power to mulch and it was constantly plugging up under the deck. I've done all the maintenance myself on this and never had it in the shop. I have never used the water pressure cleanout, though. I am definitely going to buy another one of these when this one shoots craps, but not sure which engine to buy now. This Briggs has been surprisingly good and easy to start and very dependable. Thanks for the review. Love what you do.

I have a spare parts engine for it. 3 is a mid 90s Snapper which a friend of my wife gave us when they moved. All 3 mowers were free. The Iron Horse was running when I gave it away. Just purchased this mower from Home Depot. It cost $599....Mowed the lawn and it works for me. I like being able to stand it up to access the blade(s). The wash out system is weak (as demonstrated) but hitting it with the hose is easy. I had the Toro with the steel deck and it corroded through in several places so I use Fiberglass cloth and West System Epoxy to repair the holes. The mower still works fine and it is seven years old. This is why I purchased another Toro machine, this time with an Aluminum deck...

Great Video, Excellent Warranty, Good Looking Mower, Great Features with The Greaseable Rear Wheels, Easy Stow Feature, Personal Speed Control Is Great For Older People who Cannot Keep Up With it, Considering That The Grass Was Wet It Cut Exceptionally well, Older Mowers Would Clog With Wet Grass. The Mower Didn't Struggle In The Longer Grass From What I Could Hear. A Lot Of Push Mowers You Would Have To Lift The Front wheels and Cut It Down A Bit, But That BEAUTY Went straight Through It No Problems. Very Strong Engine For 159cc. If Anything This Engine Would Be My Choice ♥ It.

It even has the front mounted dethatcher and a drop fertilizer spreader that sits on the drive wheels. This thing will turn grass blades into dust! It does a better job of mulching than my twin blade Honda! The pyramid shaped air deflectors under the deck are the key to its awesome mulching ability !Just needed a carbatrator rebuild , new battery and a new belt. I love this mower. I bought mine at the home cheapo for mulching exclusively and it does a fabulous job. My mower has the Briggs and Scratton engine so it doesn't have an oil drain plug, but I use a pump. Don't listen to Briggs when they tell you that you never need to change the oil and you just add more as it needs it. What a load of crap. Every engine has blow by and the gas will eventually contaminate the oil. That said I still love the way it mulches and the personal pace drive system. The only problem I have had is that the first unit would cut out if the engine was jostled, like trimming around a tree with roots above ground. You could also shake the mower on its back wheels and the engine would stop. I had no problem taking the mower back to Home Cheapo and exchanging the mower for the same model, which runs fine and does not cut out. FYI my old mower was a Snapper self propelled aluminum frame from the early 70s. In 1994 I replaced the engine with a Briggs I bought from a dealer and christened it my "Franken-mower". It ran perfectly 26 years before I decided to replace it with the Recycler. Perhaps it's because I changed the oil regularly and use Ethanol free gas from a gas station. That bottled stuff is 32 bucks a gallon, ridiculous. I pay 2.50 a gallon for the 93 octane ethanol free and use it in all my small engines.

@Mr_Tecumseh
4 жыл бұрын
@@DeadguyAi I'm aware. Although just because it has a plastic carb doesn't necessarily make it worse that that Loncin on their. This is why Briggs is in bankruptcy. The Briggs Quantum 190cc engine was great, it had a 30 year run and ut was one of the best walk behind engines ever produced, it would have been awesome on this mower. Like the older Recycler and Super Recycler. They have been using this Loncin Chonda ahwile now, the Super Recycler had this Chonda in 2017 when the base model recycler still had the 190cc Quantum which didn't make any sense at that time, because you paid more for the Super Recycler, but the base model Recycler had the better more powerful engine. This mower should have the newer Briggs 190cc OHV engine, those are descent and don't have plastic carbs. The ones with the plastic carbs which are the 163cc and down are crap. Larger mowers like this used to come standard with 190cc engines like the Briggs Quantum. Now everything has those underpowered crappy engines. Only commercial grade engines are offered with the 190cc engines, its a joke. Thats why I hang onto good mowers that have that Quantum on it. This mower would been great with the Honda or the Briggs 190cc OHV, its what it should have anyway, not some Foreign job. This is why American companies like Briggs are struggling. You can thank the EPA in the USA for causing all of the good older flathead engines to have been discontinued. Briggs still builds and sells the good cast Iron and flathead engines in Asia, yea thats right, you can buy the good Briggs engines still if your in Asia, but not here in the USA. I don't understand why Briggs isn't pushing to have their good 190cc OHV engine on this mower. But whatever the reason, they just filed chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection on the 19th. Its sad. I had a 1994 Super Recycler, it was a great mower, 3 speed trans, aluminum deck and a Briggs Quantum, it was still in real nic3 shape when I sold it a few years ago. Small residential power equipment had gone pretty far diwn hill in general over the last decade.
@Mr_Tecumseh
4 жыл бұрын
@Jim Johnson They can, the Vanguards are very good engines. A lot of them were made in Japan. But if you want a good engine like that you gotta pay. In order for Briggs to compete they make some pretty crappy residential mower engines. The single cylinder inteks throw rods like its their job. However the single cylinder vertical forca tractor is the only Chinese engine not available at harbor freight, you can get the rest. But again, Briggs still builds and sells their quality cast iron and flathead engines in Asia, they don't here thanks to the epa, so you can thank are epa for that, thats our government. The last good engine to go was the Quantum in 2017. The opposed twins and all of their flatheads were great. Everytime I get one in, you can count on it still running. The only descent residential mower engine you can still get from Briggs is the V twin. You have to step up to the Vanguard for everything else now if you want Quality. Briggs actually started in 1908. The model F came out in 1919.

I still say Honda has the best set up with the clip director lever for changing between mulching and bagging. A lot better than having to deal with a plug and posibly loosing it

Don’t let the mulch plug leave the yard or garage, that’s how you prevent it from getting lost.👍

When are the mower companies going to come up with a mower that you can adjust the wheel height from the push handle. That would be a great feature.

Looks like the best quality mower that you won't find at home depot, at least up here in Ontario. My uncle has the regular recycler and I just changed the belt on it for him. It is a nice mower too.

Between the three engines (Loncin, Honda, & Briggs), the Toro Loncin engine is by far the best of them all. The Briggs engines built today are very cheap with a plastic carburetor that is PRONE to problems and never runs correctly. The Honda engines are just garbage. That Overhead Cam design is notorious for overheating and shifting valve guides which makes the engine toast. This is also Toro's first time building a black mower as opposed to red. Only the Super Recyclers come in Black. The unit featured in this video retails for $549.99

That’s a bit of a generalization, Honda make the commercial ohv GXV160 engine which is far superior to the ohc engines and Chinese copies. Just remember Loncin took Honda’s ohv engine and blatantly copied it.

macdonaldjohnstonfan I’m not saying anything against Honda’s OHV engines. They’re some of the best engines out there. The OHC stuff is garbage. In regards to this mower, it’s what the competition offers. On this same deck, Toro offers an OHC Honda, Loncin, or Briggs and Stratton. Therefore, the best engine of the 3, is the Loncin. That engine is a clone of what Honda was building 30 years ago on old HRM215 models. That’s when they made decent stuff.

The new Hayter Harrier 48, 56 mowers with the autodrive only option and the Hayter Osprey 56 have this engine. Some of the cheaper new Toro Recycler models also have this engine fitted. The Briggs and Stratton engines are only seen on the better spec Hayter and Toro mowers.

I’ve got to say, that flat black with the black wheels and white toro logo does not look good in my opinion. Makes it look super cheap. The Chinese “Toro” engine completes the look. My early 2000’s first gen personal paceToro Super Recycler with cast aluminum deck makes this thing look sad. Oh the times we live in...
