I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. kzitem.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

I'm a Scag mower fanboy, bought a brand new 29 HP Kohler EFI Cheetah last year and I love it. But one of my customers has the absolute roughest yard you could imagine, which happens to also be the biggest (5 acres), I told him I didn't want to mow it regularly with my brand new mower and he said just to use his mower. Turns out he has a fully loaded laser z ExMark with Kawasaki engine, I don't want to admit it but that machine has made a good impression on me. Blades spin so damn fast and cuts grass effortlessly.

I agree that dealer service is an important factor in considering a mower. I'm unfortunate in that no matter what direction I go, it's about the same distance to any dealership (Exmark, Dixie Chopper, Country Clipper, Grasshopper, and John Deere--)around 25 minutes north, south, east, or west. The first two have pretty personable employees, didn't mind that I asked questions about their mowers, financing, and delivery. Country Clipper were like auto salesmen just rambling through a list of features and why it's better than any other mower. John Deere and Grasshopper dealers seemed uninterested, probably because ZTRs are the low end of what the dealers sell, and I'm not in the market for quarter million dollar farm equipment. Got low rate financing approved on an Exmark, though, and the dealership is delivering (after hours) and will pick up at no charge for service... so that's what I went with.

Actually Toro doesn’t make Exmark. Toro is a huge company that has crazy amounts of products out there. Exmark was the leading zero turn company so Toro bought them. After buying them they let Exmark continue to do what they do, but then incorporated Exmark technology into Toro mowers. I have all Exmark mowers with Kohler engines. When I was in the market to buy, Toro sold mowers configured a certain way, motor, seat, etc., and you couldn't swap anything out, take it or leave it. Last year I switched to Redmax which I’m in love with. They have been just as dependable as the echos that I ran. I liked the Redmax over the echos simply for the power and that they are light weight. Usually if you choose power over weight you get one or the other. The Redmax’s have a good combination of both. As far a Sthil they are well built and made well. The ones that I’ve tried out seemed to be too heavy for my liking but that just my personal preference. Thanks for commenting

Josh, I'm considering a Zmaster and I'm wondering if could you comment on its traction going down a hill. I have an fairly steep incline that I have to go down to get to a lower flat area. Once you start to slide, is it recoverable? I've only had a garden tractor before, never a zero-turn. By the way, great info in your video. Thanks!
@josh-e3j
6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Byers thanks for your comment. Well In all reality all mowers will loose some traction with hills but I was very impressed with my toros. The 52’ that I have tends to not have as much traction as my 60’ due to its larger more wider tires. If you were going to go with a zero make sure you get the biggest and widest tire size that’s offered. It will help a lot with traction. I have a customer that I service that’s on a really steep hill that I mow sideways, pretty scary at times. I have lost traction a little bit at times but it was easily recoverable. The Toro has a lower center of gravity which is also an added plus with mowing hills. I hope that maybe this gave you some insight to your question. If your not used to a z mower getting the feel to the controls is something that takes a little time but is easy to conquer. God bless you!!

I'd like to chime in on your comment and question. While I am not a pro lawn care guy, I own 22 acres of rural property that I reside on and have about 6 acres that I cut. My history includes racing motorcycles and a little car dirt track which necessitated requiring my ability to maintain and repair my own equipment. My 2007 Exmark Lazer Z HP 46" has a Kawasaki FH580V that now has 511 hours and runs great. I HAVE had to replace certain parts due to age and typical wear and tear such as belts, ignition coils, two pulleys, etc. From my experience, whether the engine is a Kawasaki, Briggs, Kohler, etc., one of the most neglected maintenance items is the valve lash adjustment. These engines are subjected to a very dirty operating environment that necessitates a stringent maintenance schedule. My manual, along with a Briggs manual for my relatives lawn tractor, only recommends to address the valve lash adjustment when the engine's performance drops off or it exhibits hard starting. I strongly disagree with this. Keeping the valves adjusted at the minimum lash gap allows the engine to produce the maximum power because the cam lobe profiles are maximized. I check/set my valves every Fall when the ambient temps cool off along with an oil\filter change and a general extended maintenance task. No matter which mower you choose, to get the maximum performance longevity of the machine, use non-ethanol fuel if possible, change the oil/filter often, and lastly, give those valves regular attention. Good luck. Oh, by the way, you can check out my two short videos of my Exmark with the exhaust experiment I did. The one with the vertical silencer is what I now use.

@josh-e3j
3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow 600 hrs seems a little low for that amount hours to be having some issues. I’ve had two DC’s silver eagles in the past, those are some good and mean machines for sure very tough. In my experience though I wasn’t ever able to get my DC’s to stripe hardly at all. Keep in mind however stripping depends on the type of grass a lot of times that your cutting. My toro Z didn’t stripe as well as I had hoped for in the beginning but the best thing I done was buy the stripe kit, it’s a little pricey it has a hard plastic roller that mounts right behind the deck. If you look closely you’ll see the mounting ears where the brackets mount on to it. Sometimes it won’t stripe as well but I blame that solely on the type of grass I’m cutting. They’re certain clients yards that I do that give some really mean professional stripes. I find myself taking pictures of them every single time haha!! One other thing to add The DC never did as well on hills in my experience but I can’t speak for the classic it may have a better center of gravity than the eagle. I’ve took some really steep hills with my Z master and felt totally comfortable. Thanks for the comment!!

I’m not sure Cody that’s a good question I’ve wondered the same thing. I’m a little skeptical about these toro engines. From what I’ve heard their not as good as the out right Kohler or Kawasaki engines. It’s a good question that needs some further investigation

Oh yeah exactly, at the time when making this video I was new to the info that was available. As Toro has changed up its line up with now a new series the 4000 and other enhancements on other models I believe that most if not all of them have the sealed spindle bearings. With use of my mowers over the years and having experiences with working on them the sealed bearings are definitely the way to go they last a lot longer. The 52’ toro I had with the grease able spindles has been gone for a while as I have sold it and purchased another 60’ 5000 series. Loving my toro’s!! Thanks for commenting

What do you think about the Toro Titan HD?
@josh-e3j
3 жыл бұрын
The toro Titan is a really good mower if you have large acreage your trying to maintain or your doing a semi part time lawn care service as a side hustle the titan would be a great for that. The titan isn’t made however to run for hours at a time each day everyday though. The Z Master or Lazer Z has beefer and heavier bearings and frame than the titan to sustain the everyday demand on wear and tear

whats your opinion on the 1500 series toro commercial
@josh-e3j
5 жыл бұрын
ASPHALT AND ARMORY technically the 1500 is a high end residential mower with some commercial components it’s not really considered commercial. However, if you only service 10 to 15 lawns or a farm with several acreage it would do great. I do think you couldn’t go wrong with it no doubt. The biggest difference with both mowers is the type of engine. The commercial mowers have Kawasaki’s and Koler engines where the 1500 has the Toro engine. From the reviews I’ve heard the Toro engine hasn’t been all that great. Other differences are with the deck. With the commercial they add a full 7 gauge steel deck where the 1500 has 7/10 gauge desks. Meaning that parts of it is 7 then other parts are 10 gauge. Then you have smaller hydro pumps as well with the 1500. The speed is also different depending on which mower. All in all it’s small differences not a big ones but with the 1500 you would probably not get the life out of it if you run it everyday as you would with the commercial. Thanks for commenting 👌

@josh-e3j
6 жыл бұрын
Tyler Mills thanks for the comment!! I’m not sure about the Titan I haven’t had any experience with it but I’ve heard a lot of great things about it. It’s a step down from the z masters but all in all it’s still a good quality machine. I would say if you have a large property that your maintaining or your cutting grass for extra money on the side it would do great. If you are cutting grass as a full time job with 40 plus yards I would recommend the z master due to the larger engine size and the stronger components. All in all I don’t think there’s a huge difference between to two and you couldn’t go wrong. If you are considering on purchasing one let me know what you think after you’ve ran it for a while

My Toro Z-Master has lasted twenty years, and no problems whatsoever. I probably cut about 6 acres almost every week in the summer. I inherited an Exmark Radius from my Dad, and I think it cuts a little bit better, but it only had 20 hours on it when I inherited it. In my opinion, the Toro is a far more durable machine generally with respect to all the parts. I do not think the Exmark will last any twenty years, maybe the deck, but the rest of the mower, I don't think so. The parts on the Exmark are just not as durable with respect to the controls, etc...lots of plastic, and you don't know what kind of engine is on the Exmark, it's unmarked, generic. The Toro on the other hand has a Kohler gas engine, and it has been flawless. I do think the Toro has a lower center of gravity than the Exmark Radius.The Exmark Radius is more comfortable because it has one of those shock absorbing comfy seats. But were I to compare the two, the Toro will probably last me another 5 years with proper maintenance, but I don't think the Exmark will go any twenty years to begin with. It could be that the Exmark Radius isn't really in the same category as a Toro Z-Master. Maybe if I compared models that are in the same category, I would feel otherwise. But, of course, something made twenty years ago (Toro Z-Master) is probably going to be beafier than something made last year (Exmark).

Captain 1201 for sure, things aren’t made as good as they used to be. I can’t really speak on the quality of Exmark however when they are sitting beside each other (in the same class) you can’t tell any difference. I’ve been amazed at both of my Toro Z’s over the past three years. I’ve had these machines so many places and spent hundreds of hours on them. They are superior when it comes to durability. Having one last for 20 years doesn’t surprise me one bit. Thanks for the comment 👌😉

@josh-e3j
5 жыл бұрын
P&C Outdoor Services lawncare well I have an idea that might work to help you. First off what is the tire pressure setting in your tires? That can have a lot to do with the height even if they are off about 2-3 lbs. if they are only at say 10 pounds you could put more air in by several pounds and that alone would raise the deck up about an inch or two. Also if you want to measure what the cut is actually cutting at do this: check you air pressure and make sure all the tires are at spec pressure (check the manual) once’s that’s done. Take a piece of 2x4 measure two pieces at 3 inches and cut them off. Next take two more pieces of 2x4 measure them at 3 1/4. (This is so you have the 1/4 inch pitch to the rear of your deck) once that’s done set your deck at 3 inches. Make sure the blades are all lined up the same point front to back. Then take the two 2x4’s that’s 3 inches and set them under the tip of the blades on the front of the mower or try too if your deck is set truly at 3 inches these should slip right under the tip of the blade. If not you will really know how much their off. Next take the 3 1/4 2x4’s set them under the blades pointing in the rear. If none of the 2x4’s will slip under the blades at 3’ then make adjustments to the set screws on each side of the chains or adjustment places. I hope this helps!! Sounds like a video I need to make soon to help others out

P&C Outdoor Services lawncare oh ok the same will apply if it’s too high just set your deck on 3’ inches and make sure all the blades are pointing forward and measure the tip of the blade to the floor. If it’s more than three inches after you measure it adjust the setting to bring the deck down in the front until you reach 3 inches then it will be in point. Just make sure that the back of the blades are 1/4 inch higher

J&I lawn care I personally like the 3000 series the best others may argue with that thought but over all for the price the 3000 can do everything the 6 and 7 thousands series can do. They just have more bell’s and whistles and go about 1 mph faster. The quality of cut is all the same. For me it’s either the 3 or 5 thousand series.

That’s a good question there’s a lot of speculation going back in forth with “who made who”? Lol kind sounds like a familiar song. What I have read and understand is that Exmark started as it’s own company in 1982 with a staff of 7 men and a small garage. Over the years in 1997 Toro made Exmark a division of their company. So Exmark is pretty much owned by Toro but it’s, it’s own brand being ran by Toro as a whole. It’s like Chevy and GMC both the same brands but two different divisions.

I am a Toro dealer. I understand the sentiment behind the "Chinese" engine. Believe me I do. However I would feel more comfortable standing behind a Toro engine than I would Kohler, Kaw, or Briggs. We have had less issues/recalls/headaches with the Toro engines than we have had with any other engine on any other mower we sell. Again, I get it but if you are shopping for performance you would be doing yourself a disservice if you overlook something because it has a "Toro" engine on it.
