Torque curve is incredible!! Flat as a pancake and really carries Im impressed using the small head Yrs back I wanted to do a ca legal 400 TPI build for my then 89 Vette . I caught so much flack hearing "gee a 180 head is too small"..proof here it works. Planned on a 213@050 HR on a 112, and heavily port afterarket TPI pieces myself Was hoping for 350hp 500 lbs torque and truly pass smog.

I'd love to see a 400 build that focused on "off idle" torque and HP with a 5000 RPM red line. Basically a stock 400 blue print with a zero Deck, street pistons, heads, 9.0:1 compression (cheap gas) RV Cam, Q-Jet and iron exhaust manifolds. I saw a Ford video (400M ) making 375 HP and 450+ lb ft of Torque idle to 4500 RPM. Tow a mountain, have enough power to pass and get better fuel mileage towing a camper.

Love the combo! I'm building a 406 with 180cc afr's. I'm leaning towards comp xe276hr cam for better vacuum and lower rpm. Any idea where that would put my torque/hp numbers in comparison to the xe288 cam you tested?

Hard to say on the exact numbers but I would guess around 460-470hp and 480-490 ft lbs and it will occur earlier in the rpm range.

Keeping it NA what can you do to reach 1000hp ?
@pageracingengines

It would take a lot of modifications to reach 1000hp NA. Basically start over completely with everything. Need a lot more airflow so bigger heads and intake, would need a much larger cam and more compression to match the heads.
