This unique plane arrived with what can only be described as “shipping damage”. Nonetheless, an attempt at restoration was mostly successful. I did my best to straighten the hardware that was damaged and then it was on to rebuilding the tote itself. Initially I thought it was mahogany…. The color and texture just didn’t appear to be beech.
Once I cut into it, the flecks started to show and the fibers were definitely beech.
One final point, after the project was completed, I discovered photos and original patent info that shows a significantly different shape for the horn. So much different, that we decided to cut this one off and redo the tote to the original shape. Palmer & Storkes would have wanted it this way.
Thanks for watching!
