0Notre Dame Basilica is one of Old Montréal's most popular historic sites. Possibly its most unique features are the stained glass windows depicting moments in the city's history that line the Basilica's ground floor. Erin walks through Notre Dame de Montréal with two experts in French Canadian history, Dominique Deslandres and Patrice Groulx, who explain the stories behind each stained glass window.
The scenes selected for the stained glass windows are largely based on 17th-century history and present an idealised version history that neglects major developments like the conquest of New France in the 18th century. We discuss why these moments have been chosen and how they influence the popular history of New France.
