@@cypherknot The barrier could be something as simple as the barriers used in airports, banks, post offices etc. When it's time to change the guard, a soldier comes out and moves it to one side. That simple divide would be enough to discourage the constant poking, pulling, scratching, fiddling that the horses have to endure. It's done for the guard on foot under the overhang a few feet down, so why not for the horses!

Maybe they need to start ticketing and fining people who grab the reins. It seems many of them are beginning to do it intentionally to get yelled at. Then they can walk away and laugh because they got away with making the guard do what they wanted. If a fine was attached to those doing it maybe it wouldn’t be such sport to them.

I loved the way the horse nuzzled into 2 of the female tourists who respectfully stood quietly beside it to have photographs taken. Pity some others don't have the same feelings or respect for the horses and guards.

Exactly. I was at a horse demonstration show yesterday, horses tied up at their trailers waiting to go in, nobody touched any of them until the last horse in, which we were told we can go and see the horse and pet her. - she was an ex race horse thats now doing grand Prix level dressage, her race career was short so her legs are still in good shape.

It seems to help yelling at the tourists to get them to back up for a while. I could not handle a bunch of people crowding closer & closer to me & the horse. How can you handle the horse with people so close. It’s a true testament to the Guards skill that many accidents don’t happen every day.

This has all got out of hand, the public treat the horses as if they were their personal property, loads of people at a time surrounding the horse and guard. Parents shoving their children under the horses head just to get a photograph. Loads of schoolchildren seemingly without any supervision Absolutely ludicrous. The guards must dread getting that tour of duty.

Instead of a blade, the guards need a riding crop. When someone grabs the reins, a smack with the riding crop will make they drop them mighty quickly and think twice before doing it again.

I was thinking the same thing. The tourist can't cry assault because pulling the reins is interference with the guards duty. I'd be happy if there was someone there to hand out fines.

I don't think that was a "ha ha" laugh, I think she was nervous and embarrassed. That horse is really mellow and when people were calm and gentle he seemed to enjoy the attention and his rider was certainly patient but it was just getting to be a bit much. Those men and women of the Kings Guard know that they are part of what people come to see, but they ARE part of the military and have a job to do other than pose for photos. They are one of MY favorite parts of London. I've taken lots of photos of them but have never tried to touch the horses.

As they should, they can litterely kill you in less than a second, they can break your ribs, break your arm or hand with their teeth.. Very dangerous and unpredictable animals.. That being said, many handled from the day after birth do their best to please their human.

These parents holding their kids are totally insane. There is a sign that warns that the horse may bite. So what does that one rocket scientist of a mother - with her kid draped across her back - do? Turns her back - with her kid - to the horse. And she almost backed into him. Luckily for her child, he was polite and didn't bite the kid. One of my previous horses would not have been so nice.

Displaying disrespect of those persons/horses simply doing their jobs, is a poor example to set for the young people present. I know I tire of seeing Jane always present and annoying the horses. Perhaps a fine and/or arrest would allow her to 'get it' and stay away and out of site.

I’m binge watching these videos and I believe that a lot these tourist doesn’t know anything about horses and most do not speak or read English. Also the Guards should put up a “do not touch the reins” sign, it might help.

Hello England! Canadian here. I've never been to your country but have seen these disrespectful people here before on videos. I don't understand why people don't realise that these beautiful horses are working, they are not to be disturbed the same way a police dog or a service animal is not to be touched. I agree with comments that tourists should be kept away somehow.

Regular announcements should be made warning tourists NOT TO TOUCH OR PAT THE HORSE. At 8.18, the whole bunch of people are doing it. The guard should have stopped it earlier. If one is allowed, everyone will follow bcoz there’s no objection.

I remember when i was that young joining the RAF, but yes respect the rules dont touch the reins some do it deliberately to record the reaction. I once was on guard at the entrance to the officers Area in Gibraltar, live armed and some tourist decided to walk towards me asking to look at my weapon and i had to challenge them muppets.

It really bothers me that the public are allowed so close to the horses and the solders. You can clearly see that the horses are not enjoying all that petting. People allow their very young children to touch the horses face, even though that they have two signs that are really clear that the horse maybe bite or kick. The lack of respect now a days is sickening.
